Trans Temp Question

This morning I decided to take my truck to work since we just got 8" of fresh snow. At Christmas time, I installed isspro ev2 gauges in my 04 F250 including a trans temp gauge. This morning while in 4wd in the snow I noticed my trans temp go really high. The first time I was on the expressway traveling about 50 mph. The trans temp went all the way up to 230* F and the factory gauge never moved from center. The next time I was at a stop light running at about 160*F which is pretty normal. Still in 4wd I accelerated away from the light to 45mph. Again, I saw my trans temp spike up to 220*F. Is this normal? I have to say I was a bit concerned. This type of thing has probably been going on for years, but this is the first time I noticed as the gauges are new.

Sounds pretty close to normal to me....UNLESS it stayed at those temps. Did it come right back down? What was the cruise temp? Do you also have EGT gauge? What was it doing.... HAve you checked tranny fluid level?

Where is the sender for the gauge located? If it's in the line to the cooler that's normal. If it is in the pressure port or the pan I expect there is a wiring problem between the sender and the gauge. Trans temp can't move very fast, though temps to the cooler can.

It is in the test port of the trans. On the way home tonight I tried it again. I stopped at a stop sign a put the truck in 4wd. Within 5 sec the gauge went from 150* to 215*. There was no gradual increase, it just basically shot to 215* almost immediately. All the way home I was in 2wd and it read normal about 150-160*. Why is 4wd causing this glitch??

The temp stayed high as long as I stayed in 4wd. MY EGT were normal, nothing over 700*. I will check trans fluid level tonight.
