Ok that makes sense thanks!
Any ideas about where to get new split ring cone washers for the studs that attach the arm and knuckle? The guys at Carquest, Napa and Fastenal have never seen them before.

hmmmmm so far I can only find 9/16 size, and I think I need 3/8.
I'm at a loss really because I can't salvage mine and I've looked all over.

^Done! Thanks

I'm getting ready to put the whole front end back together after several weeks of finals, being sick and other obstacles I've got spring break to get it together!

Now, does the knuckle go on before I put the stub shaft and inner shaft back in? I seem to remember that it did but this is one of the many setbacks of such a long lasting project, I can't remember
Is there anything I need to make sure that the inner shaft threads onto or attaches to at the other end?

I'm assuming your steering arm is like the one pictured below, those are 3/8" studs on a D44, the D44HD has 9/16" studs.

Nevermind, i seen you found them already.

Put the knuckle back on and the seal on the back of knuckle. Then you can put the stub and inner shaft in. it just slips into the side gear on the spider gears. You might have to wiggle it some to get it to slide in. Then you can put the grease in if you are going back with grease. Then put spindle on and finish up with the hubs and bearings.
