Dome Light Override Switch - OOPS
#46
Ok. I know it's been awhile. But! I finally got my override done and wired up on my 00 X. I got to thinking. That wire has to go up one of the pillars. On the driversside. The plastic cover on the floor. Pull that up. Then you will see a bundle of wires. Cut the tape holding the wires. You will find the black with a light blue strip. But the only problem is that you will find 3 blk/ltblu. Lol. I just cut until I found the right wire. One wire I cut didn't seem to do anything. The other I cut shut off the little lights on the front doors. And the last wire I cut was the dome lights!

Finally, for those with a 2000, here's an easier way to get at your BK/BL wire. Just like mentioned above, there are 2 identical wires, so make sure you cut the right one (or left one ).
Originally I had the green switch, but it didn't fit flush so I went with an old skool steel toggle.
Now we're ready to camp.

This thread helped me so much, I had to join this forum to say...THANKS! I really needed to have a kill switch on the dome and step lights to save my battery, since I spend more time loading/unloading my truck, than driving it. Found the blk/ltb wire, no problem. Installed switch. Works great!

Well, it looks like my selective color blindness was acting up again yesterday. When looking at the wiring going into the plug I could've sworn that there were two BK/LB wires. Looking at it again today when the sun was shining a bit brighter, and with fresh batteries in my flashlight, I see that one wire, the first one I cut, was actually brown with the light blue stripe. In fact it looks like the same wire I mistakenly cut at the CJB. Since there wasn't much room for forgiveness I spliced it with a short length of 16ga. wire. If you look close at the top connections you can see the one on the left is black and the one on the right is brown.
For future reference, the BK/LB wire runs into the plug on the left. Naturally the one that's harder to get out.
I connected the wiring to the BK/LB wire for the switch. I tried the switch and it works! Finally! Now all I have to do is run the wires under the dash and install the switch. I still don't know what the brown/light blue stripe wire is for but now I have two places to look if something stops working. This will be a welcome mod. I just wish I had a garage to work in instead of in my parking space out front.
Thanks to everyone for the help.
Chris

I pulled the left connector apart like the photo above and the interior lights went off but the exterior step lights stayed on. Is there a second wire behind the passenger kick panel for the exterior step lights? It must be in a differnt plug. Will this mean I need 2 switches? This is on a 2005 Ex.
