well ive got a 97 ext cab 4x4 with the 4.6 and a 3.55 limited slip rear with 155000 on the clock. and being a 97 i have the smallest v8 these trucks came with (hp wise) and i can light up both tires on dry pavement and roast em a good 35+ feet (265/070/17) so you got some issues.lol i thought these trucks only had 355 or 373 gears as options?
i bet i know why he cant light em up. DUDE!!!!! ITS CALLED POWER BRAKE THAT BAD BOY!!!! lol.
im gunna have to take a video of this cause it dont power brake, burn out, if i take a sharp corner i can get it to spin out for 15 or so feet but not from a stop. the right side tag is really corrodedi cant make out any numbers except for 8 1/2. im a pretty good mechanic but im really stumped

who needs to powerbrake? i can light them up with out brakes....
some grunt at take off, but if im crusing or on the free and i jam the pedal when it down shifts itll kick the head back a bit, its got alot of power mid range to high it seems
yes i agree, i need to change the diff fluide so i think ill count the teeth then ill have a deff answear. maybe a set or 4.11s
im not a diff guy, but i think 4.11 is a chevy thing. every ford ive seen uses 4.10s. might as well upgrade the axel too. you probably have a 8.8. go to a 9 or 9.75. hell maybe even a sterling 10.25
it is, i was a gm tech for several years, it slipped 4.10s are ford, god the up grades will never end with the ford, my 86 had a built FI 5.0l with headers, cam, bored .30 over and man i miss it. it was a screamer. ive read you can build the 4.6 to a 5.0

yup they make a stroker kit for it. i dont think its worth it. im wondering if you can build a 5.4 into a 5.8.....
the thing is once you get it where you want it, you'll most likely never need to put another dime in to it.
You can build the 4.6 or you can upgrade to a 5.4 and be done with it.
I do think if you lift this truck and put bigger tires on it, you're going to see a significant drop in power across the board. The smaller tires are working to your advantage right now. With bigger tires and numerically lower gear set, such as a 3.08, it's gonna hurt. If I were you I would concentrate on that rear diff. Find a 9.75 with the 3.55's at minimum, but if you're going up in tires, especially beyond a 33 inch, you'll need to regear to a numerically higher gearset, and that includes the front diff. Don't change gears in one without doing the other.
I'm running 305/70-16's on mine, which equates to a 33" tire. On dry pavement, it takes a bit of power braking to roll em and smoke em, but since this last tire purchase and a new set of brakes, I'm being a little more conscientious about it. Anywhere else, though, off road, dry or wet, and any slightly wet pavement, I don't even have to goose it hard to break 'em loose. I have to be easy on the pedal. It's torquey. With any smaller tire, especially a street tire, I wouldn't be able to keep em hooked up on anything. My drivetrain is a flashed 5.4, stock everything else, and a 9.75 rear diff with limited slip 3.55s. And as far as trailering, I pull a 16' trailer all the time hauling somebody's broke junk from one place to the other, no problems whatsoever.....
....and Ford is coming out with a 302 cu in, 5.0 liter modular engine called the Coyote in next year's Mustang. They're gonna be putting it in the F150, too. Its got something on the order of 400 ft lbs of torque and 400 horses....
ive heard you could swap in the 5.4. i already had it in place to regear when bigger tires came about is it a direct bolt in for the 9.75? then regear to 4.10s should be able to handle 35 to 37s fairly well. i dont be a ton of freeway driving more intown and in the woods for camping and hunting. plus i have the time to do all this since i have a company rig for a daily driver. so how i see this is i should jack it up, swap rear axle and regear and were good for the time being. i like the idea of the 8inch sus lift.hhmm
i am running 35's with 3.55 gears and i can get a little scratch on dry pavement, how bout that guys lol. just got the 4.6 but done some upgrades to the motor and it quite peppy. ive taken a 5.4l stock f-150 from the start till about 85 mph cause thats all my truck will do. that guy was shocked and so was i.

it also has the axle ratios inside the door jam. there is a sticker that has all the info, tire size, air pressure and axle info
