2004 6.0 Missing in high gear

Hello:
I recently purchased a 2004 F350 PSD with 105k miles. It's a second SuperDuty in my garage. My wife wanted her own PSD!
It seems to run and drive great, but I have one concern.
When going up a steep grade in overdrive at about 55 mph (maybe a little under 1500 rpm?) it seems to miss. You can feel the engine sputter a little. It doesn't do this at any other time, and it goes away if you push it hard enough to make it downshift.
My other 2004 PSD doesn't do this (although it once threw a check engine light under similiar loading).
Is this typical? Is the answer just not to "lug" the engine or is this a sign of bad things coming?
I've been getting about 15-16 mpg combined driving, which is on par with the other PSD we own.
Thanks for the help!

When mine did that it was missing on one cylinder. In my case it was a bent push rod. I have heard a bad injector acts the same

Mine did that also, IDK if it was the FICM or 2 injectors were weak, as they both got replaced at the same time. Runs great now, but I did replace all 4 on that side to be safe. Maybe take it to dealer (or somewhere they can pull codes) to see if it shows any codes. Have you checked the FICM voltage yet? Like I said, I had both issues. Report back when you get it figured out, good luck!

I've got a code reader so I guess I'll start there.
I've got two of these 6.0s now so I better figure out how to start doing some of my own maintenance.

The Tech folder at the top of the forums page, hilighted in red, is a good source of info. OC's are a piece of cake( be sure to always use proper Racor, International or Motorcraft filters), same with fuel and air filters. Fumoto valve for the oil pan makes it easier. Coolant filter- a must. CCV reroute, all in the Tech folder. Now you have some homework to do!

Coolant Filter???

Boy, I guess I am behind the curve!
I wasn't prepared for how much my wife was going to love the new Super Crew so I better get with the program and learn how to maintain the beast. I don't see a new one in my future anytime soon!
Should I leave these 6.0s bone stock, or go for some of the mods that will enhance reliability? EGR delete? I don't really care if it has more power or not, but a bump in fuel economy never hurts.
Ok, now did I hijack my own thread and get off topic?? )

I have an SCT X3 that I usually run a Stock+ tune which is @ 20+ hp and better shifting. I am stock for the winter since I plow a little. It has plenty of power for me, even stock and I run 6.5" lift and 37's. Bone stock is prolly best, and the reliability mods including EGR delete will only help your 6.0 live longer.

Did I hear someone say coolant filter? This is so important. I just put a new 06 engine in my 04 because of the oil cooler/egr cooler issues. If you plan on keeping the truck for a long time these issues need to be addressed. My new 06 motor has ARP studs, FCD EGR Delete, HPOP STC mod, completely inspected and re-taped engine compartment wire harness and Dieselsite coolant filter installed before it was started. I just returned from a 1100 mile shakedown trip. I had to change the coolant filter element at 350 miles. It was plugged solid. I will check it tomorrow and expect I will have to change it again. This coolant debris issue is very real. I wish I had known these things when my EGR cooler blew up. I probably would still be running the original engine.

Regards
