2004 6.0 PSD better than the 2003?
I'm looking at buying a used Excursion 2002 - 2004 and want to get the diesel. I know the 7.3 PSD in the 2002 is a pretty bullet proof motor, but I've heard a lot of bad things about the 6.0 PSD in the 2003 models. Has ford fixed the problem with the 6.0 PSD for 2004 or should I keep looking for a 7.3 PSD?
Also, I was told that you could get the 7.3 PSD in the 2003 model But all I have found is the 6.0 PSD. Is it true or was 2002 the last year for the 7.3 PSD.
Thanks

IN MY case, the 7.3 in my 02 Ex was a problem which was replaced by my SOLID, fun 03 6-oh Ex !
So should I start a rumor that the 7.3's are a problem and the 6.0's are solid and fast and fun ?!? :-)
but seriously folk !
There are a FEW 7.3's in the 03's but not many...
And some of the early build 6.0's did have some problems...
but FOR THE MOST PART, they are worked out...
My Aprila build 03 is a HORSE - check the dyno graph in my gallery ....
doesn't matter WHAT weight your vehicle is, that much torque can get it down the road...
And with 29K miles, I'm driving it whenever I can...

If I was going to take a risk on an 03 6.0, which I would not do again, I'd make very sure that the engine build date is 6/03 or later so that you at least don't get the old injectors.
When I was looking for my 03 Ex, I found a surprising number of new ones with 7.3's on lots in this area. I'd guess it's because they weren't moving as well against the newer motor.

I don't consider it a risk....
but that's just my opinion... just like your's is your opinion...
I watch when I run around the DFW area...
and even with the GM plant close to us, it's a Ford Superduty town...
(other than the bmw and Lexi drivers :-)
MANY more on the road than chebby's and Dodge is making inroads into Chevy from my viewpoint...
and I can say I've never seen a SD/Ex on the side of the road (when the driver wasn't just stopping to take a P :-)
