CMP / camshaft position sensor

Wifey texted me that I just received a recall letter in the mail to have this sensor replaced. I have been doing some searching and I see this is a common failure with the 7.3s.

Just wondering why I got the recall letter now, and noticed no other recent posts mentioned receiving a similar letter....?

I get one every few months, it was a big deal maybe a year and a half ago but now It has basically just gone to everyone's junk mail pile.

I don't know why it took them so long to find you, are you in witness protection?

as for if you want to take it in for the recall or not.....I have the original CPS in my truck with 285,000 miles on it. The new CPS's have been proven to cause issues

....I choose to keep the one that I know works and I do have a spare in my glove box. Im kinda running off the if it ain't broke theory.

There is another recall for the cruse control de-activation switch.

That is a whole different animal. Ford has screwed up at least one member's truck doing this recall but all in all it is a pretty safe/idiot proof recall that needs to be taken care of. A lot of members here have chosen to purchase the updated wiring harness for this upgrade and handle it themselves rather take the risk.

There are TONS of posts on this. Don't let them put the gray sensor in there if you can help it.

Just got another letter from Ford. I filed it in the "under the kitchen sink" filing cabinet.

They put the new one in mine, and the idle somehow became more confident, and has been running 100%

My e99 recieved a gray sensor before the recall and has been fine for 2+ years. But I do have a spare black one just in case.

The black ones are hard to find now. There is a new grayish black one from IH that some have had good luck with.
