My bad with the size. Pull the lock cylinder there is a little hole on the under side of the cylinder housing and turn the key you may find that you snapped the end off the cyilinder and it won't require the entire wheel to be pulled. But if you do need to pull the wheel remove the top cover then remove the nut in the center. i bought my wheel puller for $15.00. pull the wheel. then take everything apart. I layed everything out in the order i pulled it. Others can pipe in and give more details.
its pretty self explanitory....just go piece by piece and use your head...somewhere I read the service manual version and it included pulling the whole column....I have yet to even drop one when doing it, just look for small places to work in and move things around into...
Right On! you were correct once again, the end of the lock cylinder did indeed snap off and I was able to pull the rest out. Now I just need to figure out how to get that little tip out of there. I can get a grip on it with needle nose but I cant seem to rotate it either direction and it doesn't want to pull straight out. It almost looks like there are copper or brass collars on either side of it holding it down? I was think of drilling into it and trying to use a screw puller to get it out but I'm afraid that might litter alot of little metal shavings down into the mechanism.
is it a tilt column? if so try straitening it then working with it when you tilt the column it can bind everything. There is a snap ring inside you can pull then the plate then you can get the tip out try not to pull the gear because it is a pain to get back in the correct position.
Problem solved. Got the old cylinder neck out following your instructions Macman, and poped a new cyl. in, but then had the same jamming problem when I tried to start it, that had caused me to break the lock in the first place. Turns out that the ignition switch had shifted and the arm coming from the lock cylinder was jamming in it. moved it a bit and it started right up. Great simple solution!
Yeah It was a great simple fix in the end. Thanks a lot to everyone who contributed, This forum is a great tool for someone like me that enjoys working on my truck but doesn't have the knowledge or experience to know HOW to fix all the problems that arise. Its great to be able to post an issue and have half a dozen experts throwing out ideas within a day. And in a few days I have the truck running again, now I just have to find some veggie oil for her to run on! Thanks
