96 Ford Ranger XLT Ignition Key stuck in off Position
My ignition key is stuck / locked in the off position. The first time this happened I jiggled the key while moving the wheel back and forth and it turned. The next time in the truck nothing worked. I let it roll back a bit then tried, pushed the clutch in and put it in neutral, etc it did not move. (Just had the clutch and clutch hydraulics replaced.) The wheel is locked. The key removes from the cylinder.
I know it is easy to replace the Ignition Lock Cylinder when you can turn the key in the run position.
Anyone know how to remove it when locked in off?
Thanks,

That happened when my truck was fairly new and cold out. Called Ford dealer and they sent a guy out who know the problem from others. He said the grease in the cylinder can get stiff from the weather or age. He sprayed some WD-40 in the lock and then gave it a couple of good smacks with the end of a 2x4. Worked but he said spray it a couple more times.

Anyone with a Ranger, Bronco, Explorer or something similar, have you had a problem like this, with the key stuck in the off position?
I've read about drilling something out and using channel locks to force the key in the run position. Does this destroy anything besides the key lock cylinder?
Thanks,
