Some smoke at low idle, yellow drippings

Hi all.

2006 F350 FX4 with 6 speed manual transmission.

I have noticed that my truck is smoking more than usual (at low idle speed especially). I am burning 50/50 #1/#2 blend. When the high idle kicks in, the emissions clean up. On the fresh snow I have noticed that when it idles for a prolonged time, I am getting yellow liquid out of the exhaust pipe.

I know I am not supposed to idle much with a 6.0, but the truck is like life support for doing cattle chores all winter.

I have 32k on the truck, and I have changed fuel filters and had the egr/turbo decoked in the last 5k.

Is there something here I should be addressing?

Thanks!

Sounds like an EGR cooler to me... when they leak it starts dripping coolant into the exhaust or through the engine. Check if your missing coolant

That is what I feared. The truck had a Check engine soon light pop up today. I was half way home from another bin sight, and had to finish the pull home. I wonder if this is covered in the 100k warranty, or if I end up responsible since my 3/36k is up?

If it's the EGR cooler, it's covered.....zero deductible, as it's part of the emissions system.

What color is the smoke, if its not losing coolant than it may not be the EGR cooler failing.

Does the liquid freeze on the ground in a short period of time, if so it may just be condensation in the exhasut dripping out.

I had the same problem a while back and thought it was the EGR cooler and it wasnt, they installed a scoop, reflashed it, and cleaned the intake and all was well.

Tech read the code with handheld, and I need a new turbo.

The liquid seemed to freeze relatively quickly. I told them my concerns, and they will poke around a bit while they are taking things apart. They will clean/replace the egr valve as part of the repair. If it has the egr cooler issue, they should be able to tell from that vantage point.

Thanks for the replies!!! I always feel better going to the shop with a few ideas as to what may be wrong.

Hey Sarge,
Forgive my ignorance, but what is a scoop?

I am not quite sure what all it was, it had to do with a TSB that they found. The paper work is in the truck at my shop. I will get it in the morning and post the TSB # for you and tell you exactly what they did. This was back in Novemeber so if they reflash yours you will have the newest flash, I missed it by hours.

The reason why I asked if it froze quiclky is that if it did it would most likely not be coolant...coolant shouldnt freeze real quick. Like I said I thought the same thing.

Must be you have a overboost/underboost code, hopefully they will replace the center section, and you will probably get the updated oil feed and drain pipe too..so good deal for ya
