Door handle problems

So I still have my very bald tires on my truck because im waiting on my duelers to arrive at the tire place to get installed. I was driving on a snowy road going about 40 in 2wd. (yes im an idiot) and some dude in a honda civic (of course) rips out in front of me. I fished tailed, lost control and ended up facing the other way in a ditch, driver side to the ditch.

The body of the truck was completely unharmed but since the truck was pulled out my inner door handle on the drivers side has been really hard to pull and the handle broke off the other day. The doors on these trucks are a tad foreign to me. It feels like theres a rod bent or something. Any suggestions?

The inner door handle is connected to the latch mechanism with a cable that tends to stretch.. I have the same problem in my truck now since changing the doors. The earlier trucks had a link rod which worked much better, I'll be converting my truck back to the these as soon as the weather warms up or I break my inner door handle off.. whatever comes first.

Its not hard to pull the door panel off to check. Just make sure you go by the parts store first and pick up some of the door panel fasteners (christmas tree/push-in style). They don't hold very well after removal, that is if they don't break. It might be something minor. Broke the interior door handle off on mine once as I was getting fuel to go out of town for the weekend. Picked up a new handle at O'Reilly's and took it back to the shop and had it fixed in less than 15 min, but mine just needed a little lubrication.

I've broke about 4 or 5 in mine. If you can, go to a scrap yard and get some door handles off of an early 80's f-150. They are metal but they bolt right up. Seems like the replacement handles for these trucks a very cheaply made, I could only get one to last a few months. A buddy of mine did this on his 95 too, picked up the handles for like 5 or 6 bucks for the pair from the scrap yard. I would oil the latch and handle/spring too.

Ok well I was able to pull the pocket off the door, near the handle instead of the whole panel. (i sort of broke it off but i reattached it) Turns out the whole mechanism was some how rusted and frozen just like that. I sprayed PB Blaster in it after installing the new door handle and it freed itself up and now its totally fine. I thought it was a bigger problem.
