Door handle problems

Hi, I just installed new door seals and my drivers door will not unlatch with the outside handle when the doors the all the way closed. I tried bending the rod inside the door and it just straightens itself out when I pull on the door handle. The inside door handle opens the door just fine. I figured maybe my seal need too squish down for a little while and it's been about two weeks. If the doors not close all the way it works just fine. Any ideas?

No it's a solid rod with some bends in it, I tried to change the bend and it just flexed back into the factory shape.

No, I mean the striker post where the latch catches. I haven't tried it on my truck, but I know on my Mustang you can loosen it and reposition.

Is it harder to shut the door with the new weatherstripping?

Yes, I could move the striker plate but the door lines up good, and yes the door is harder to close I'm thinking I might need to remove the door seal and install another.

Factory installed door weather strips were a different shape and almost flat, were not available at parts counter!

Ford "service part replacements" .. parts sold at the parts counter...what the repro's are based on, are much fatter.

It's a PITA because the doors will not close properly after they're installed. This is a very common problem that affects all 1961/79 trucks.

Just move the striker post a little might help it a lot and the door may still line up. Try to adjust before you change seals. If the plastic sleeve is missing on the striker, this will cause the door to be hard to open when adjusted tight.

my passenger door started rattling for no reason a week or two ago, I didn't notice this plastic piece had broke off. I fixed it by putting some aluminum duct tape for sealing home AC vents/ducts around the post. it seems to be holding for now.
