I NEVER romped even in the low 20s with Rotella. The first & only time I romped was with Delo, and my engine was noisy as hell. I won't run the stuff again. Ever since then, it's been syn and I won't go back.
How much are you paying for the Rotella syn? I looked tonight At Wally World and it was around $18 a gallon. so $4.50 a qt. x 15= $67.50 per fill. The Delo was $10.50 A gallon, so $2.63 a qt.x15= $39.45 a fill. So foughly twice the price. Of course if you go to a shop you will pay $4.50 a qt for Delo. Do it yourself for the same price using syn.
I'm running Delo in mine right now, again. Been in there for a while though. Just not racking up the miles on mine. FWIW, I have had mine romp big time with Rotella. It has also romped on the Delo. It has never romped with synthetic.
Anyone interested ought to look in the owner's manual. There you wil see the oil recommendation from the factory for cold temps, and 15w-40 is not it for sustained cold temps. Of course unless you are going to go through an oil change during the period it is that cold, sustained, then go with that. Otherwise get synthetic or live with romps for a brief time.

Syn is about ~50% more in cost, but I run it 50% longer, so the cost per mile is roughly the same (~7500 miles instead of 5000). I don't run the cheapest oil out there for the same reason I don't drive the cheapest truck out there...
