bed/runningboard question

hey guys,
the seam between the running board and the bed extention, is that supposed to be fastened? the "flange/lip" of both of mine are not wide enough for any bolts to run thru. just wondering if they should be modified to bolt together. ( i have fiberglass boards and an aftermarket bed, so im just not sure what this seam was like on an original setup) i have the seam touching, almost butted together i assume thats how they are supposed to be? or did they overlap each other? any thots or pics?
thanks.. R

Should be around 1/8" - 1/4", to allow the two to move relative to each other

I have a 48 f1 with fiberglass boards and I butted & flushed them to the bed with three 1/4" bolts per side and it gives it a real clean look.

Good Luck, Bob

Is it on the road yet? I'm curious if it will rip the bolts out from the bed or RB's moving.

Not on the road yet but I figured the bed is bolted to the frame and the boards are to so it would be alright. I hope my thought process was right.
