hood release adjustment

I tired a search but came up empty. I am not ready to install a remote so lets not get into that. The hood on my 78 f250 is getting hard to open sometimes. Up until recently it jumped up when the lever was released. Sometimes it just hangs there. I would like to adjust the release so I dont get stuck with a locked hood, breaking something.

Any suggestions

First thing is to be sure the latch and both hood hinges are well lubricated. You would be amazed at what a little oil can do!
