Exclamation Need input -EBPV problem

Swapped from early to late '99 stuff to make room for a 38R and last night I ended up pulling the turbo to tighten down the up pipes and a couple loose bolts on the EBPV. Got everything snugged up and got the turbo back in - but realizing that the EBPV actuator rod binds against the pedestal when I try to reach the pin that actually moves the flapper.

I did re-use my early '99 EBPV, were they different for other years?

Now that I have the whole thing back together - I was thinking of just wiring the EBPV open for the time being - need the truck for V-day stuff.

I could get freeze plugs and just remove the EBPV, but I hate having to pull the turbo again. (and spending $ on another gasket / install kit when I literally just got it back in at 5 am this morning). If the engine hasn't been run yet (hasn't gotten hot) should the gaskets be re-usable?

Also - what possible disadvantages are there to removing the EBPV? Any advantage to keeping it?

wire it open like you said and unplug the sender right bellow the turbo, down on the pedistal.. that was the first thing i did....that valve drove me nuts with 5" strait pipes..delete it with freeze plugs and will help flow more air..for the price of orings..i would just get new but if there in good shape you can reuse them...

You wanna' do this today?

Re-use them. A second crush will be the same as the first.

You will get code P0475 with the EBPV actuator connector pulled, but it won't hurt anything. You can make a fooler to put across the harness connector to eliminate the code. A 470 ohm 1/2 watt or 1 watt resistor will do the trick.

Thanks to everyone for helpful input. Got the truck back together and running. By the time I had the turbo mounted and everything torqued down (you guys know what a delight the up pipes are) I didn't want to have to pull the turbo again that night so I could use the truck the next day.

I have a piece of heavy wire (coat hanger actually) cut to length and holding the EBPV open. There is enough of a height difference that the EBPV actuator rod can't make contact with the valve anyway - so left it attached for now. I'll find a resistor and disconnect the solenoid when I get time.

I'd like to avoid having to pull the turbo again so soon for now (have a bunch of other things going on), so I'll have the freeze plugs and other supplies set aside in my tool box for the next time the turbo has to come off. I'm hoping it'll be awhile before I have to mess with it.
