wondering if anyone has replaced there steering box and knows which one it is. NAPA says either 32 splines or 36 splines..... Ford dealer says there is only one and the 4x4 makes the difference. so of course they wouldn't tell me how many splines it had because they new i wasnt gonna buy it from them... so 2002 f-350 4x4 steering box 32 or 36 splines?
Count the number of splines with the tip of a ballpoint pen, running it over the splines and counting the "peaks". The sector shaft has 4 big splines 90* from each other, count the splines in between two of them and multiply by 4. I know an early 99' I just helped to lift has a 32 spline, and my 01' has a 36.
PS- How have you been HawaiianPSD, truck still riding good?
i just went through this when converting mine to a 4x4, all mono beam (4x4 and the straight axle 2wd suspension in the 450's and up) use the 36 spline, but with the i beam fronts most came with 32 spline boxes and a few with 36.

yea i think the pre 2000 7.3's are the lesser of the two splines, i figured this out when i did my lift kit and had to replace the drop pitman arm.
yeah i have the 32 spline box so i couldnt just put the right pitman arm on mine when we put the front end in, so a little modification and its good to go.
Only way to know for sure is to count them in a 90 degree area and multiply by 4 as said above. But when I researched the red head box I found the 4x4 trucks are the ones with 36 splines, the 2wd most likely have 32.
