I'd say go for it. This is my first super duty and I love mine. Never had a 6.0, so couldn't say there. I would be hesitant to be a guinea pig for the 6.7. If I was to buy one of those I would probably wait a year or two until they get the bugs worked out. From what I've seen on semis every time they have a major emissions upgrade, it takes a year or two to get them dialed in. Next year its urea injection. Hopefully they have it all figured out and there is no problem. I wouldn't take that chance though as I plan keep my truck for 10+ yrs. If you trade often it might not be that big a deal.

In my opionion the GM's have good power stock and are fast off the line, however, when it comes to towing something heavy they just don't even compare. I think this is due to the IDF suspension and the fact their trucks are so much lighter in weight.
I dont want to be mean here
i know that Ford cost you alot of money
I have a 2006 GMC Duramax
I also have a 2010 Ford F-350 6.4
Any day of the week that Duramax will out pull the Ford hands down
Now the Ford only has 3500 miles on it
Maybe it will wear in
But I don't see so far how the Ford will keep up with the GMC pulling
So dont beat up on the competition till you are sure

jsa3107 Ooouch. man are you gonna hear it now. I don't doubt what you say but does the 06 jimmie have a DPF? Just courious because I think that absent the "greenie crap" this motor would be way awesome. And the way it is it pulls my 17,000 lb 5er effortlessly. It does a better job than my 7.3L did and until I tried it I didn't think that was possible. I've been on the road with a fifth wheel for 10 years now and I have to tell you that in my experience Fords towing RVs out number GM and Dodge combined by at least 5 or 6 to 1. It might be because I'm down South a lot and Fords seem to be even more popular down here, but I've travelled the entire country and that's just what I see. I agree that doesn't mean Fords better, but I do think it means more RV'ers think they are.

The GMC is stock
I added a program to the 2010 Ford just to try and get some MPG and power out of it
I pull a 10,000 pound race car trailer
I can tell you so far the GMC has it all over the Ford
Now maybe the Ford will break in but so far it isnt even close
And yes I know I will get bashed for saying this
But I feel people need to really look at the 6.4 before they buy
Now they say the 2011 will be better lets see

Jsa3107,

You are entitled to your opinion. I disagree, but short of hooking up to your trailer and timing an identical run with your trailer we are at an impass.

Check out the heavy duty shootout for the 2008's at pickuptrucks.com.

I had an '05 duramax and it did have a lot of pulling power. Problem was stability and the rest of the stuff bolted to the wheels. Went through 2 front suspension rebuilds and lots of tires, it just ate them.

My 6.4 does not have the jump that the duramax did, but we all know why and also the 18" tires plus a lower rear end compared to the cheby I had. Different animals when speaking about off the line speed/grunt.

Now, the F250 I have is far more stable and reliable than the chevy dually I had. By reliable I mean that the suspension has not worn out, winds and trailer sway are things that my Ford handles better than any truck I have driven.

If I can drive a 600 mile day without being white knuckled, I am happy. This is why I support the Ford Super Duty now. Chevy/GMC has nice seats but no thanks on the rest.

Sawtooth, I run about 5000 miles each month, have been since last October, a slow month would be around 3000. I like to throw out my odometer reading now and then to comfort some folks out there worried about longevity and such.

One thing I go by in my life is proof
I have driven both trucks and still own both trucks
And so that is my proof
But it is all good
The reason I bring it up is I want people to have all the facts before they put out 50K for a new truck
Again maybe in the 2011 model it will be better

Smokey--make the switch!! I love my 2008 F350. But I've only got 21,000 on it in 16 months...
ruschejj: 5000 miles a month!! It must be nice to get to "work" in your truck...I have to sit in front of a computer all day and dream about driving my truck...

As far as comparing any '06 (pre-DPF) to any brand '08 and above, well, you know the saying about apples and oranges. Thank you EPA...

This has got to be one of the most sensible posts on this thread. Thank you!

here is the link:PickupTruck.Com - Part 1: 2007 PickupTruck.com Heavy Duty Shootout

My take on the article is all three are basically about the same in power and capabilty. What the article cannot convey is how the truck handles in real world situations, safety, stability ect.

As Ruschejj suggested on his posting.

Just food for thought.

Interesting post about the 06' Chevy/GMC having it all over the 6.4 Ford. Hey you are entitled to your opinion, however my good friend has the 06' GMC and he is very jealous of my truck. I am not knocking his truck though, because that thing is great too. Both trucks have more power than 95% of the people running them would ever need. However, my truck is way smoother, more power, (tuned vs tuned) feels more stable when towing, is faster, gets better MPG, and in my "opinion" is much better looking inside and out.

I'm quickly getting to a point where i really don't even want to own another diesel. This bloody thing i've got now seems to be cursed, nobody can fix it, or even diagnose it, dealer included. I'm really tired of having a vehicle that i'm not equipped to repair at home. I'm thinking maybe a F150 with a 5.4 may just suffice.

I had a problematic 2003 6.0, but once the ARP headstuds and EGR blocker were installed it ran very well. The engine was apart at 160000 kms and ran flawlessly until 230000 kms. The truck was tuned via an SCT w/Innovative tunes.
My current 2008 is head and shoulders above the '03 in terms of comfort and refinement. Just like another poster mentioned, the Chevy guys who have always had a more car-like interior are impressed. The 6.4 seems stout. I only have 40000 kms on mine but will be doing a DPF delete and tuner installation this spring -- then this thing will be what it should have been in the first place!
I think a 6.0 with the right mods can prove to be a darn good truck, most of them should have some of the troublesome issues resolved by now. The cab-off headstud install is the kicker if it has not been done.
The 2008 is just a much much nicer truck IMHO!

6.6 = 360hp 650 ft/lbs torque
6.4 = 350hp 650 ft/lbs torque

That is stock vs stock.
