I'll start a new thread on the trans.. It's gotten horrible.. Went a mile away tonight to run someone to the store.. it was running fine until I got home.. Put it in Reverse to back in the driveway and it paused and then clunked into reverse. Then you could hear a loud "whirring" sound and it smelt like trans fluid was burning.

I don't know what the hell the dealer did or if it's 1 big coincidence.

Oh yeah, the PCM has to know transmission temperature to determine the shift strategies since fluid viscosity is very important to proper operation.

Ford simply needed to fill a spot on the instrument cluster so they put in a gauge that is even more useless than the coolant temperature gauge.

I forgot to add. I have 3 gauges on my a-pillar. EGT, Trans Temp, and Manifold pressure.

That's where I got the trans temp reading.

It's only when I'm at partial throttle. If I'm barely on it or all the way on it, then it doesn't do it.. However if I'm on it it hesitates and surges then takes off all good..

They said they ran the "buzz" test. Said it all sounded fine.. They said it's all good "electrically"

Pretty sure you have a dead cylinder. Most likely an injector problem. How many miles are on the truck? and i know its hard to do with your recent tranny problem (strange mine had an injector go down then had tranny issues at the same time also) but can you tell me what rpm the stuttering goes away?

145,000 "ish" miles is on the truck.. There's no specific RPM it's all depends on how much I push on the throttle. If I mash it to the floor after about 1 1/2 - 2 secs it'll go like a raped ape..

Yesterday I checked the trans dipstick. It had red and black fluid on it. Started up the truck and drove it to the Trans shop. They took it for a test drive and said it's having lock up issues and they think the trans need a rebuild. Yesterday they pulled the trans out of the truck and started taking it apart. I should know more today. But a full rebuild with a new torque converter will be around $2600.

Wish I knew how to rebuild transmissions. Guess I should learn sometime soon..

Though they said during their test drive with all the symptoms they felt it seems to be a transmission lockup/slipping issue. So there's a chance that after this rebuild my hesitation/surging/jerking issue might be gone.

Subscribing, plz keep us posted I have similar issues. BTW the TPS is mounted to the accelarotor pedal assembly just above the pedal you will see 3 wires or 5 wires plug. Get in touch with Ed he's got the whole pedal assemblies dirt cheap compared to the dealer! If you find that yours is bad?

subscribing,

when the tranny ir rebuilt you should have them throw in a transgo tugger kit. It wont add much to the rebuild cost and will save you from doing it later down the road.

I'll keep everyone updated as much as I can.. the bill is at $2,684.43. Unfortunately I'm not super rich. I just went down and paid him $2,000. I'll have the rest by the 1st.

So while I was down there he showed me my torque converter.. Internally it was destroyed.. I picked it up and shook it and you could hear all the parts flailing around in there. Then they took me to the transmission. It was already taken apart and in pieces. You could see the metal shavings all over the place in there.

They're waiting on delivery of some parts and will get back to it as soon as they are in. He said it should be done by tomorrow night. I told him I'm very interested in seeing if the tranny/torque converter was the whole issue with the hesitation/surging..

I'm not familiar with Suncoast Torque Converters but a couple people said they are the best to get. Well I'm getting a Suncoast billet tripple disk for the price of a stock TC. So that's a good thing eh? will post more as time goes on.

Thanks!

I'm hoping that the whole surging issue is caused because the TC was failing.. It's gunna suck to get the tranny fixed just to have to fix the motor. meh.

Glad to see that you didn't have to pay the $560 for the ICP change..You must have presented your case politically. If your trans is what was fried the dealer should have seen the codes. Curious.

I hope after getting your trans fixed everything runs as it should.. Sounds like that was the problem.

I was very calm and collected.. Informed the Service Manager that I was told they were 100% sure the ICP was the reason while it was surging/hesitating and after replacement it did not fix any issue and that I don't feel I should have to pay for it.

I don't know why he didn't pull the trans code. I ended up pulling them myself.. I did tell the SM at the dealer in a very calm manner that I had no faith in his mechanics ability.

No update... Didn't hear from the Trans shop yesterday. Since I don't have the last 700 to pay him until the first he said he might put my truck off if a quick job comes in. Which is fine.. Cause he told me it would be finished this week.

I'm going to give him a ring today and see what the status is... I've very anxious to find out if the jerking/hesitating is gone
