i got tired of foolin with all that, i just dropped it off at the shop, they're puttin in a new column, maybe a new gearbox too, i'll let ya know when i get some details on what was wrong, sounds like we were havin similar problems
Well I picked up the bearings and the spring kit. Hopefully I can do it this weekend. The dirty sucker about locked up on me today on the way to the dealer ship. It gets real stiff when I take it out of 4x4 and unlock the hubs then it loosens up. I checked out the wheel by moving it up and down and side to side and there is some play there. Should there be any at all? How long does it take to remove the column, swap the bearings out and put it back in?
I can do the entire job in less than an hour, but I have done hundreds of them. If you have tilt wheel, you will need a special tool to remove the pivot.
No, but you will need it to remove the upper part of the column to replace those 2 bearings. You may want to replace the bushings on your shift tube as well while you got it out (if you have an automatic trans.).
