That is an impressive starter, Bulla! Thanks for the link! I think $430 is steep, but I am willing if I never have to worry about being without a starter. Some of those others are $2-300+ already, so a bit more is okay. I don't ever want to be out in the sticks and wish I'd done it.
Is it an absolute that I'd have to notch the crossmember? Or is it one of those things where it depends on the engine placement? Maybe loosening the motor mounts...?
I'll shoot an email to Foster to ask dimensions and compare it to the DBE version.
The DB would just not respond at all. The relay is fresh and my batteries are new'ish, so I don't suspect them at all. I checked and rechecked all the connections. At other times, I can fire it over and over without a problem. The gist of it is that I cannot rely on it.
In addition, the old starter turns fine (for an old Mitsubishi). I did think about having the DB rebuilt, but it's inside of the year warranty and even if it's rebuilt, I am unsure of it's longevity (maybe still not a bad idea). If it had been outside of the warranty, I'd definitely do it.
Bulla, I think you read the other thread over in the SD forum. There was a discussion about Better Starters. I have a couple of pics in my album of the DB Electrical Chinese knock-off and the true Denso starters. I have also posted two Youtoob videos of the Mitsu and genuine Denso starts.
