C6 Trans
On a 1982 Ford Truck With a C6 Trans with overdrive, does the trans have 3 speeds including overdrive or is that without overdrive, I am trying to figure out if the overdrive isnt working. The truck is a 1982 Ford F-250 with a 302 and C6 Trans.

The c6 is a three speed transmission, no overdrive. If there is an add-on overdrive, that's a totally separate thing and shifted manually in most cases. If it's an overdrive auto, it's not a C6.

IF it's OEM, it could be an AOD according to this:

IF it's an AOD, it is a 4 speed, and 4th is OD. It also has a locking torque converter, which will feel like another gear sometimes.
The AOD for that year is a troublesome transmission.

It won't feel like another gear on an AOD. AOD was 60% lock and 40% slip anytime it's in 3rd gear and 100% lock when in 4th gear. It does not run unlocked sometimes and locked sometimes like the electronic transmissions do.
