I have a 74 f-250 that i put a fuel injected 300 6cyl in. It has a divorced transfer case in it right now but would like to swap it out with a married one to get more clearance. Is it worth it or am i sacrificing strength for clearance.
More clearance where? IMO the married T-case is worse than divorced, you will have to change out 2 driveshafts making the rear longer and therefore more problematic. It also makes it more difficult to pull the transmission or t-case.
What transmission do you have now? If you went with a 205 married case, I don't see where you would loose any strength, a 205 is a 205 married or not, you would be loosing the 3rd driveshaft. I would think you would need the driveshafts from a married truck and the crossmember from a married truck may need to be modified for the highboy frame but could be done.
I have four speed in it now and have another tranny and married transfer case out of a 88 f-150 with the driveshafts. Do not know if it is a 205 or not. I believe I have a divorced 205 in my truck now it is cast steel and the 88 transfer case is alluminum.
Thank-you... if i am going to be swapping one problem for another with a low driveshaft then you are right there is not much point. Can i rotate my transfer case so it doesn't hang down so far?

BTW welcome to FTE!
While a divorced case has an advantage or two. A married tcase actually is less problemetic than a divorced case any day. I would however find a 205 married case before I swapped in the 1345 or 56, they are good cases just not as bulletproof as a 205, and the 205s are plentful and available at resonable prices.
The 205 never came behind a 5 spd that I know of and I have never tried, but have heard that they can be installed. Their is nothing wrong with the 1345 or 56 Tcases they are tough, just not quite as bulletproof as the 205s.
For the 300 six any zf from a 300 or 302 should work.
