Ok Fuse number 22 and number one under the hood is drawing current while key is in the off position.Number 22 is drawing a lot more then one. What do you think the cause is. Or where should I start looking???
1999 1/2 f350 dually 7.3 diesel.Pulling 273 with meter on the 2000m range. With big Fuse #22 underhood pulled drops down to about 53.And then if I pull number 1 mini it drops too about 2.
Did you unhook your engine compartment light? I believe that is on fuse 22 and while you have the hood open it is pulling current. What problems are you having that made you start investigating current draws?
I was having hard start problems. So I replaced some faulty glow plugs and my gpr.Still had the same problem so I Took the batts in too b tested. They said that one was bad and the other was good.So i went out and bought some new batts.
Which now after a few other observations (New batts slowly drawing down)has brought me To voltage and amp checks.Underhood light is disconnected. And was before the problems or tests.
When I had this problem it was the regulator in my alternator. The alternator was a brand new DB electrical alternator and they had gotten a bad batch of regulators, which let the current drain back into the alternator. I'm not sure that's your problem, do you need a wiring diagram? Fuse 22 controls many things. Send me your email address and I can email you the diagram if you need it.
I thought the same thing but it doesnt change the amp draw with the alt disconnected.I would think that with the alt disconnected it would have changed the draw from the battery if that was what was wrong.Im thinking it has to be in the circuit that is controlled by fuse number 22.I might even have to go look to see if the prev owner might have spliced into it with something else that could be drawing the current. There are two switches on my dash that I think are add on's and I dont know what they control.
It would be great if you could e-mail me any diagrams for this truck that you have so I can Start by eliminating the things that come off this circuit with the factory wiring. My email is kswebb@zoominternet.net
I emailed them to you, I hope they help. It is quite possible the previous owner added something to that fuse. I believe most of the fuses in the panel under the dash are controlled by 22. And one more thing to check I have read were the glove box light has stayed on and caused problems before. I would probably get someone to start taking the fuses out under the dash one by one while you watch the meter, and eliminate all of those first. Good luck.
Well the funny thing is that I did that with my meter up in the windshield and no change. It was kinda hard too see with it snowing and all.But I don't think it changed at all which brings me back too the I wonder if the aftermarket stereo or those switches looks like I'm gonna have to do it again and if I get the same results then its time to pull the stereo head out and pull the dash cover so I can look and also unplug the switches And see if it drops.
Thanks for the wiring diagrams.I really appreciate them
Ok i found out that fuse number 15 is the cause which is the gem.I also think that it is about impssible for a draw of 275m to kill the batterys overnight. So ive decided that im gonna try it again and leave it and see what the voltages are in the morning. If they are good then fine and if not then im gonna change the alt.It should show up on the meter as bad but if not then its the most likely cause. Thanks too all that helped me and i will update this as soon as I'm sure its fixed.
First thing in the am feel the alt if it is a bit warmer than the ambient air temp then the diode is leaking and that is what is causing your batteries to drain.
