im sure this has been asked before but i cant find it...does it hurt our trucks to run with the hubs locked in for days on in...with all the snow we are having on the east cost and from going from dry roads to snow coverd i have been just leaving them locked.. so i didnt know if it would damage anything..
Just dont leave one side locked in, and the other side not locked in. You can potentially destroy your spider gears. When one side is in, and the other side isnt, the only thing typically spinning is the spider gears. But the ring gear isnt slinging any oil. While the oil level should be right near the bottom of the spider gears, that just isnt always the case. So you end up having your gears spinning, with little to no oil. Some people get away with it, and I suppose you could decrease chance of failure, if you managed to over fill your diff, providing oil to the spiders without slinging. But running them with both sides locked in is fine, just could hurt some mpgs.
