Locking hubs maintenance?

Locking hubs maintenance?
With a little over 60,000 miles on my 2006 250 now, I have been meticulous with all maintenance but I can't help but wonder about those hubs.
Sometimes they seem stiff and other times they seem free and smooth, I guess that's just the nature of the beast.
Is there any maintenance they require? I have never had them apart either, is it just a matter of the allen wrench bolts holding the outer hub on? Has anyone tried grease or lube? What's the life expectancy of the bearings and hubs? (taking into account since I left the construction industry six moths ago the hubs rarely get locked in aside from a few good snow storms or hunting trips)
