HELP!!!
I know that the engine on my truck needs rebuilt, but now i think it needs it asap, heres whats going on: I did an oil change the other day and used high milage oil, well when i was driving it yesterday i noticed a significant amount of smoke coming out from under the hood and when i opened the hood i found oil dripping out of one of the breathers, does anyone know what would make this much oil go up into the breather?

What Engine?
FE and Y blocks will pour oil out of the valve covers if the oil return holes in the head are blocked as the oil provided to the rockers cannot return to the pan.
I6 takes a bit more to get oil out of.

The smoke was being caused by the oil dripping from the breather on to the exhaust manifold. But i put in 8 quarts which is how much my maintenance manual says to put in a 302 (my motor was swapped by the PO) but i might have overfilled it, would that cause these issues?

8 Quarts holy ****skie! Stock small blocks with stock pans take 5 and that includes the one in the filter. You are about double capicity.
Did you look at the 302HD, those take 8 quarts plus one in the filter and are no way confused with a 302 windsor.....
302HDs are found in C700 and F700 and larger trucks.

The manual i have is a 1962-1963 shop manual, its a repro of the original ford ones. and i didnt see that it was talking about the hd 302s as opposed to the 302w like what i have and i assumed that all 302s were the same. big mistake on my part

Yep, will get you every time. I double checked my 63 spec book and the 61 Shop manual to check if that's what you may have done.
You probably did not do any internal hydraulic damage but be prepared for all the gaskets to leak. This is typical when overfilled as it pressurized the crankcase.

ok thanx for the heads up and now i know for next time. I happy that this will be an easy fix, i thought i was gonna have to rebuild y engine now which wouldve forced me to pass up a 32 3 window im looking at
