360 cranking/smoke problem

My 360 is blowing smoke and oil out the breather/filler every time I crank it. I've been asked if it is blue or white, but not sure on that. All I know is that it has a chrome breather on the left valve cover and when I crank the engine, it blows white smoke up through the hood and there is always oil on the valve cover just beneath the breather.

What's causing the smoke?

I'd say a tired, wore out ol FE. Time to start looking for a 390 crank and rod set so you can rebuild it back as a 390 and drive it many more years.

Its called blowby. Its oil being burnt in the combustion chamber either getting by the piston rings or valve guides. Like Joewilker said, time to start looking for a 390 donor. Its not an emergency, but shes showin her miles.
