O.K., this may sound like a stupid question so I'll start it with an explanation. I just re-installed my DPF/DOC filters on my '08 F250 6.4 and returned the truck to stock. As I loaded the original stock tune from my SCT Livewire, everything seemed fine. I didn't receive any errors and it completed successfully. When I started it up and took it for a ride, it indeed felt STOCK again. However, I noticed that my Traction Control was "OFF" and I couldn't change it. It worked correctly before I did the mods in August. The truck has about 180 miles on it since returning to stock so I haven't seen a Regen yet.
My question: Is there any other way to be sure that I actually returned the truck to stock without having to wait 500 or more miles for it to go into Regen? I have to get a Mass Inspection Sticker before the end of February and don't feel like finding out next week sometime that I have a problem. I have an Actron OBD Scanner - will there be any data there that will tell me I am running Ford's tune or SCT's tune? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks...
im sure if it felt like stock, you can be sure it is probably just a glitch with your Traction control, i would think its either tuned or not.. it cant be a bit of both..
least this is what i remember when i had my 6.0 tuned and returned it to stock.
I would suggest tuning the truck again and then returning it to stock again. As long as you don't drive it while it's tuned there won't be an issue with the DPF. Might have been a downloading error that happened when returning to stock and doing it again might fix it. Keep in mind these are computers you are dealing with and they can be temper mental. Good Luck
Did you just ask them too or did you have a good excuse?
Believe it or not, I actually told them the truth. They knew I had the tuner so I told them the stock Ford file got corrupted. They said "No Problem - we'll have to charge you an hour labor but we'll do it!"
Let's see if that comes back to bite me in the a@#!
Hey Jim how do you like your SCT? Mostly I'm curious if you see an improvement in gas mileage.
I love it - still debating whether I'm going to rush to remove the DPF/DOC again, but love it. I've been running River City Diesel's old 485 tune since August and it's hot! It actually is hotter now that I'm back to stock - while it's in there, you loose track of just what STOCK is like!!! Lots of horsepower and torque, shifting is firm but not harsh - overall, a nice daily driver tune.
Stock, I was only getting 11 mpg City and 13.5-14 Highway - with the 485 tune loaded, I was getting 14 city and 18-19 highway. And that's not babying it - I have fun with the truck on a daily basis. You won't go wrong for sure and it'll save you a substantial amount of money over some of the other tuners. I really didn't care about the display - I loaded the tune and put the SCT away (after I watched for a week or so to see what things were doing under different driving conditions). I have to send mine back now because I had the truck re-flashed by Ford and my SCT firmware doesn't work with that new flash. I am probably going to Innovative Diesel Technologies this time. Eric has some really nice new tunes with bigger, safer horsepower and has also done some new stuff with the transmission tuning. I still have some time before I do it though - I won't get my inspection sticker until late next week so the DPF/DOC are still on! Hope this helps?

How come you don't deal with Spartan at all? They have some great tunes. I may have missed this but why did you need to update your software at ford? How was the stock lag and lack of power? Fun? Hahah

1.) Money - I got my SCT, the delete pipe kit and the custom tunes for half what I would have had to pay for a Spartan setup.
2.) Somehow, it appears that the stock Ford Tune got corrupted while in storage inside the SCT.
3.) Yeah, stock SUCKS, Bigtime! Oh, and you forgot "Lack of Fuel Mileage" - I was averaging 340 miles per tank of fuel with the RCD 485 Tune. I have driven the truck very easy since I went back to stock and I had to fill up this afternoon at 290 miles... yep, went from 15 combined to 11.3 combined. And I've been driving easy to get it ready for the inspection sticker? This won't last long...

Great info as im close to pulling trigger on either SCT or Spartan. however, not sure i want to remove DPF although i know thats the best MPG ill ever see. did you ever run your SCT with the DPF on? just curious what your MPG improvement was if you did. also assume both the spartan and SCT can be purchased and installed by me vs. having it done. let me know if im wrong.
