Lack of tools and garage room is keeping me from finding out anything as of yet. I am getting a good work out tho making sure the driveway and half the road is shoveled down to the blacktop tho!
Im so happy that we already have 20" and another 8+ coming on Wednesday!! >:O
I have a similar prob and cant figure it out
00 f350 dually crew cab lariat 4x4
when i turn the switch in the cab, the light indicates that the 4x4 is on but it doesnt work
if i manually turn the hub locks, it still doesnt work
Why wouldnt the manual hub locks be working???
I have had so much trouble with this (replaced vaccum pump etc) and would really appreciate it if someone could help me out.
Sounds like your switch isn't engaging the transfer case ! Turn on your key to run position without starting the truck. Have somebody turn the switch to 4X4 while you're under the truck. You should be able to hear the transfer case lock in... If you can't it's probably your switch ! Just my .02
k ill check that. Would the manual locks on the hubs not bypass the switch tho? I was under the impression that the point of the manual locks was to engage the 4x4 if the auto switch happens to not work.
By the way thanks for replying , I never get replys so i usually have to rely on searching similar forums
If you are manually locking the hubs and they are not engaging, i.e. you can still turn the axles shafts or front driveshaft by hand (doesn't matter if the t-case is in 4wd or not) then the insides of your hubs are sticking. Guzzle has a pretty good write up on taking them apart and cleaning them. To sumarize all that, the inside of the hub is kind of like the top part of those cheap government pens. If you remove a hub and turn it to engage it and see nothing, you can push in on the white center piece and it will click. Push in again and it clicks and unlocks again.
I think your hubs just simply aren't engaging. Mine were the same way and the outer ***** hard to turn. Reasons that made me scrap the unreliable factory hubs for Warns. It's more than just the vacuum stuff that makes these suck, half the time they don't even work when you manually turn them.
that is perfect. thank you so much so once the manual locks are cleaned and lubed there should be nothing stopping the 4x4 from working? ill prob inspect the vac lines and everything to try to solve the autolock prob but i just really need some form of 4x4 lol

Make sure you do the 30 second check under the truck before your tear into your hubs,.. Just to make sure you transfer case is clicking in as I mentioned in my last post ! Start at the source and work your way down. Also as said above... lock in the hubs manually and see if you can turn the front u-joints. If it turns your problem is in your hub... When hubs are locked you shouldn't be able to turn the front u-joints ! Pretty simple to trouble shoot ! Good luck with it !
Well i had my girlfriend turn the 4x4 **** while i was under and i could hear it engage. When your talking about turning the driveshaft test do i have to have the front end of my truck jacked up off the ground?
