I have not done anything else with it. My truck has been to all three shops within a hundred miles of where I live in the last year and lets just say they don't know how to troubleshooting engine issues. While it was under warranty, I asked two of them to test injectors and both said they are fine. But I doubt they did much to test them.
The other day it was 45 in the morning and it barely puffed for about a minute, with no other smoke.
I am guessing / hoping it is a combination of the tuner over fueling while cold and no cat. Once I am a mile down the road, there is zero smoke.
my 06 not tuned will blow a little white smoke for about a min then quits. thats normal operation. Even a light mis for 30-1 min is about normal on this type of injection system
my advise is stop the 2stroke oil, return the truck back to the oem tune, and try it. also test fuel pressure and perform any repairs reqired to get that inspec. test the ficm voltage. ohm out all the glowplugs (do not use a test light) if all that is good then most likly an injector concern.
Yeah, I have never used two stroke oil. I use Diesel Kleen, white bottle now, grey bottle in a week or two, through October or so.
The long story is, I bought it in April with 93k miles, ran fine empty, fan clutch came on bad when loaded. First dealer cleaned radiator, refused to test ECT/EOT like I instructed. Second dealer a month later, diagnosed EGR/oil cooler, but didn't have the parts. Third dealer did it, but broke VGT connector, so it about dies in the middle of Montana. Fourth dealer fixed that, billed to third dealer. Took back to second dealer as fan clutch still ran and when pulling a long hill, started sputtering. They diagnosed nothing and couln't repeat it. I towed and it sputtered again. I started using DK, took it to third dealer with my toy hauler, and diagnosed a bad fan clutch, which I denied since I can clearly hear it running. Both the last two times I asked them to check injectors, FICM, and fuel pressure and they said they were fine, but have no clue how they determined the injectors and FICM were fine.
Then, I said, screw it, and just after 100k, I did my upgrades. My EGR is intact, but I replaced the uppipe, welded a block off plate, and unplugged the EGR. Then the coolant filter.
Sorry for the story! LOL But for now it is running fine, so I haven't bothered with it. Deep down I think I have an injector issue that DK is keeping at bay, but that is just my impression. I have a buddy who started working as a diesel mechanic about a year ago and he replaced the injectors of another buddy's 1994 powerstroke and says mine shouldn't be a problem. So, I might just do that this summer. Or I might wait til they really go.
To add one thing, when the engine is cold, it runs steady (in that not rough) but it takes more pressure on the gas pedal and the boost it significantly higher (and ZERO smoke after I am about a mile from my house). In that when warm I am almost no boost at 35, but when cold (engine cold, can be 50 degrees out), it takes around 10 psi at 35 mph. This is all the way until water gets to about 180 degrees, which is about 15 minutes, then runs great.
I think this is normal, but it is a little irritating. LOL
ya its normal, once again a cold diesel runs like crap. mine has no power for 10miles that it take to full heat up. at that point I can cruise at 70mph and 3psi racking up the fuel mileage.
befor that im tunning 10-15 psi and going nowere.
