Is there more than one C-6 transmission? I usually just read the e-mail digest, and someone there said he had a C-6 with a 240. I had been under the understanding that the C-6 only bolted onto the big-blocks.
I have a c6 and i was bolted to a 300 6 six, and now to a 302, i did't now you can bold it to a big block, any how, now a wonder that changeing the belt-housing you may bolt it either to big or small block....
CJ the C6 is available for about all of the engine families. I found one for a FE. I know that the bells are made for the small blocks, big blocks, clevelands.
I also used to believe the C6 only bolted to the big blocks. I have C6 tranys for a 460, 400M and 428 FE. I also have a 1984 Bronco with a 302 and it has a C6 in it too. It appears Ford made them to bolt to almost all their engines.
the c-6 cases are different for the different engine families.the 240-300 shares the small-block pattern so the small-block c-6 fits those. these trannys are somewhat rare but usually found in vans where the c-4,c-5 and aod wouldn't last long. the 351m,400 uses the 429/460 pattern so the trans fits those as well (except a rare 73 351m that uses a smallblock pattern) the torque converter may be different depending on year. and the FE motors(330,331,332,352,360,361,390,391,406,410,427 ,428) of course have a c-6 as well as the MEL motors(383,430,462) which had a c-6 in 66-68 lincoln continentals. unless you have a 170-250 car six or a pinto there is a c-6 that can be made to fit. i know i saw a 292/312 with a c-6 from a FE motor but i dont know if they share a pattern or if he re-drilled the block.(but it can be done)
