I have a 1981 F100 with a 302 and C4. The C4 is starting to slip and I ran across a C6 out of a 1980 E150. It has the 302 bolt pattern. I figured this C6 would be better for towing. What all is needed to do this swap? I have the torque converter and starter plate. Which flywheel do I need? My 302 is out of a 1971 Torino (my F100 originally had the 255 V8). Also, I know the yoke shaft is bigger in the C6, so will my driveshaft work? I know that I will need to shorten it about 3 inches, but I was wondering about the u joint size.
I looked up a 1980 f100/302 on rockauto, and even though they list both flexplates for the c4 and the c6 as having 164 teeth, they are still different part numbers.
You should be able to go to Napa and get a u-joint that will adapt your shaft to the large yoke. They have them that are wider one way, narrow the other, larger caps one way, smaller the other, in many different combinations. Spicer is the one who makes them.
They are called "combination u joints", that will help when searching. I see O-reilly's sells them also. You will probably need a cheap set of calipers to measure what you need. The first time I ran across this I had the driveshaft and the yoke in the back of my car, and the guy at Napa brought his calipers out an figured out what I needed for me.
