My answer would be yes, but Bill will know for sure. Ford liked using like things so I would be surprised to see a different one.

You're up Mr. Bill.

C5TZ17260Y .. Speedometer Cable Assy / 70.80" long.

Fits: 1964/72 F100/250 240/300 C4 // 1969/72 F100 302 C4.

1970/72 F100/350 360/390 C6 // 1964/72 F100 w/Overdrive.

1966/72 F100 4WD w/NP435 4 speed.

Reproduced by Dennis Carpenter (located in Concord NC: 704-786-8139), who has 939 available.

A speedo cable assy is composed of two pieces, outer housing, inside woven steel core.

If the outer housing isn't damaged, you can go to any autoparts store and buy an replacement core kit.

Just cut it to length, coat it with graphite, install it in the old housing.

NOTE: Speedometer cables do not come with speedometer gears.

Unfortunately my outer cable housing is messed up. I was cutting out my floor pan and accidentally cut it in half! I just looked up that part# and it seems like just the one i need. Here's a good question for you if I'm running 18" wheels on my truck how many teeth on the trans gear do i need to have?

Speedo gears are listed by: engine size, trans type, rear axle ratio and tire size.

Even if you give me the three out of four requirements, since 18" wheels were never offered for these trucks, there's no way to look up the gear.

Sorry.

rim size is a worthless mesurment. it is the tire OD that is important you can have a 33 inch TIRE with a 20 inch rim or a 15 inch rim and it wont make a diff on speedo read outs.....

It may be worthless to you, but you don't have the parts catalog, and pray tell, where oh where is the OP going to find out what the correct gear is?

From a crystal ball?

How can I look up in the PARTS CATALOG any speedo gear for a truck that has 18" wheels when only 15's or 16's (optional) were originally available?

Ford goes by the tire size, and there ain't no 18" tire sizes listed either.

but if he has the stock tire size (for a 15inich rim) what does the rim matter...

does the 15 inch and 16 inch rim have a different speedo gear? and tire size? what sizes are the tires stock and what size does the OP have if they are the same then who cares what rim is on there?

and if he has the wrong size tire the parts catalog isnt going to do him much good anyways....

OK kiddo...you asked for it...this is what I have to go by.

I'll use a certain SoCal FTE members truck for an example.

1970 F250 / 3.73-1 / C6

7.50 x 16" / 8 tooth drive gear / 17 tooth driven gear.

7.00 x 16" / 8 tooth drive gear / 19 tooth driven gear.

8.75 x 16.5" / 7 tooth drive gear / 18 tooth driven gear.

Any more questions, opinions, suppositions?

Bill is still struggling with the fact that the world turns outside of the parts book. As correctly stated the height of the tire can be figured out and used to find the correct imput.

The parts catalog is ALL I have to go by, John.

I have NO OTHER WAY of looking up the friggen gears!

If the OP wants to figure out what his 18" tires compute to 15" sizes, then I can proceed.

Otherwise, I'm SOL.

Monkeyman, I had mine replaced by a small shop here in town where the guy makes them. He has rolls of outer housing and inner cable. He just cuts it to length and adds the end parts from your original. I walked in at closing time and he did mine in about 10 minutes for cheap. Otherwise, head over to the junkyard. You'd be hard pressed to find one any cheaper.

Thanks guys for the info the only reason I didn't state what size tires im running is because if haven't decided yet. Right now im looking at a 302, 373 gears, C4 tranney and more than likely 245/50/18 for tires but will propably go smaller if i can get the tires at the right price.
