C6 trans shifter linkage
The 390's C6 used a solid link from the steering column to the C6. The Ranchero's 400M's C6 used a cable from the steering column to it's C6.
The problem I am having is that the shift lever for the 390's C6 attaches below and in front of the shift rod whereas the shift lever for the 400M's C6 is above and behind the shift rod. Therefore shift lever on the 400M's C6 is 180 degrees off from the 390's shift lever.
If I just use a longer shift link then the shifter on the steering column will be backwards, ie. when you put the shifter in "P" the trans will be in "1" and vice-versa.
Does anyone have a recommendation for me?????
I've already pulled the shifter cable from the donor Ranchero but how would I attach it to the shifter on the truck's steering column?
Is there an adapter that I can buy?
I've already looked into changing the shifter rod & lever on the trans but you need to remove the valve body to get at it. Can I just remove the shift lever from the shift rod? It appears to be pressed on. Do I need a special tool to remove it??
All help is greatly appreciated.
Bruce.
