V10 owners step inside (supercharger project)

I've always been into supercharging things to get the best performance out of them. From Vortech mustangs to procharged corvettes. That was until I got my V10 excursion. Didn't want a centrifical because I wanted lowend torque for towing. The two companies that offered root type blowers no longer make them and no one has a turbo kit. So I set out to make my own kit. A V10 is just a 5.4L with two extra cylinders. So why not take the supercharger off of a lightning and modify it to work on a V10?

PLAN:
Take two lightning lower intakes and cut them in half and join them back together to make a intake for the V10. Not only would it make good power but parts are plentiful for the lightnings. This could easily be done for under $2,500 with used lightning parts.

I have gathered most of the parts for this and should start on cutting the intakes up in a week or two. I will be posting pictures as I go along. This build is also in the V10 engine section incase you don't make it over there.

I picked up the engine off of craigslist for $150. Some old guy bought it for a street rod and couldn't figure it out, lol.

curious what your going to do about a serpentine belt.

but compared to the rest of the project that will be pretty minor i suppose, haahah

def. looking forward to watching the results.

do you have plans to add higher performance parts to the V10's bottom end ? i hear the V10 with stock parts isnt able to handle being Turbo/Supercharged for long.

Serpentine belt will remain factory. Lightnings have an 8 rib belt for the accessories and a 8 rib just for the supercharger. So everything will bolt up just fine. Might go a different route on the intake modification. Just might knock two holes in the back of the lightning intake and extend the intake flange. Then take some mandrel bent aluminum tube and make the back runners. This will cut down on cutting and weld time.
The stock bottom end should handle 8psi no problems. It will be intercooled which 80% of the supercharger kits on the market are not. I had a 5.4L expedition with a procharger running 9psi with no problems for 30k miles. They share the same piston and rods so with a good tune it will live.
He's a picture of the heat exchanger and water pump.

Subscribing, even though I'm a V8 owner. I accidentally tripped and fell into this thread

I'm just anxious to see you start cutting up those intakes!

Ooops, I too tripped and fell into this thread. I have a feeling I'm going to be tripping and falling a lot of times within the next few weeks. Best of luck, I'm sure it will be a very exciting and rewarding project. I'm getting a headache just thinking about attempting it myself.. haha, don't think so. Keep us updated... uuuhh, I mean, the V10 guys, I'll just see it on my way down.

Not a V-10 owner but I think they're cool - does that qualify?
