I have been intesrested in a new F250 Diesel
just waiting for the right time to buy
I'm new to the list but I have a question from hearsay
That Ford bought Cummings motor
and that Dodge was going to use a Mercedes Diesel
what is the truth bout that
Ford was to come out with a Cummings Diesel by Ford
I see the Ford has a new motor 6.7
is this it or did Ford just stick with Powerstroke and made a new one ?
Thanks
Dodge and Cummins just signed a new deal;
"February 3, 2010
For Immediate Release
COLUMBUS, Ind. – Cummins Inc. (NYSE:CMI) today announced a multiyear extension of its current agreement with Chrysler Group LLC. Cummins will supply 6.7-liter Turbo Diesel engines for Ram Heavy Duty pickups and Chassis Cab trucks while continuing to grow its partnership with Chrysler, which began 21 years ago."
and Mercedes isn't producing a 2010 on highway engine.
390 hp, 735 lbs-ft
6520 lbs payload (the 1ton is now a 3.5ton!)
21,600 lbs tow rating on F350, 24,400 F450
But here's the stupid part: F450's payload is only 4920 lbs. Stupid marketing decision - they replaced the 19.5s with regular 17s to increase top speed form 80 to 90 mph. Coupled with F450's heavier frame, payload suffered.
Problem is, towing at 24,400 woulb make it easy to exceed the payload. I think you're safer exceeding the toe rating on an F350 instead, as you'll at least stay within GVW.
Wow, that is old news! When Dodge was married to Daimler there were rumors of Dodge using a Mercedes diesel. However she (Mercedes) would not let him play with her engine while married so I do not see how she would let him play when divorced......and it was not a happy divorce. She dropped the hyphenated name and ran! Or took a private plane or jumped on a private yacht. Either way she was not happy with his money situation.....as he tended to take more from her purse. Since then he has a new best friend Uncle Obama.
As far as Cummings. WOW.....GEE WIZ rumors everywhere.....forever. I have heard that Ford might use the Cummings over the years. As of late I have heard that if GM can't make the Duramax compliant for 2012 that they might also adopt the Cummings. My question is Why?
Ford just spent some coin to develope their new 6.7 and manufacture it themselves to boot. Plus it is part of their marketing for the new 2011 model line up.
GM is also launching a new product for 2011. Why they would choose a Duramax for their 2011 relaunch but add a Cummings later is beyond me.
Oh, and last but not least. As long as Dodge uses Cummings I don't see why GM or Ford would. Not to mention the new 6.7 Cummings is not the end all Cumming's engine it use to be.
I like the Ford 6.4. I hope the new 6.7 is better...but don't see how it can be. The block might be but the newer the truck the harsher the EPA standards!
I had the oppotunity to drive a 2011 F350 on Friday! Just writing this puts the grin back on my face. What a torque monster. It was hard to keep the tires glued to the pavement all the way up to about 70 kmh. For all of you trailer haulers the manual mode will be well received. What a beautiful truck. Of course it was fully loaded with all the options but the most impressive part was the powertrain in this thing. It will take some time to see what the longevity of it will be but from all the info published on it I think this was the way for Ford to go. A single piece block with 6 bolt mains has got to be more rigid that anything with a bedplate. I will be looking at buying one of these in about 10 years when they are affordable. LOL
Saw my first 2011 Super Duty today at the Plant City Strawberry Festival in Florida. It was an F-450, Lariat, 8' bed with sprayed in liner, and a 5th wheel connection. The new Diesel was somewhere under the hood but darn near needed a stepladder to see in! Sunroof looked nice, too. Very comfortable but surprisingly less leg room on passenger side than expected. Door sticker said built in 8/2009. Must have been early off the line.
I'm new here, hope I do this right. I've owned Ford trucks since 1969, 6 to be exact. I'm planning on a new one this fall. I tow a 5th wheel RV and a stock trailer and need to upgrade from a F250 (7.3) to possibly an F450. My concern is, with a totally new diesel, which could possibly have a few bugs till their all worked out, what kind of warranty will Ford offer. Hopefully not the standard 36/3 yr. Am not interested in extended packages. I hoping for a 100/7 yr. as a standard package. My final commitment will be based on this question.
36/36 is pretty much a given, so is 60K for any emissions related componets. I think the emission warranty is a fed law.
I would almost bank on at least the 100K/7 years of the current motors. 6.0 and the 6.4 had the same exact warranty so kinds seems it will be the same.
Why is the V10 being dropped? I have a 2008 V 10. My lease is up in August. I love the power and don't want to pay the extra $ for the diesel. I tow my car 5-6 times a year. I'm not sure I like the power drop from the V10 to the new 6.2.
