I am trying to determine if I need a heater core for my 04 6.0L F350. In case I do, what do those cost?
FYI,
I have some dripping in the cab on the passenger side, sometimes. And then it does not taste like coolant. It tastes like water. So I am in the process of trying to detertime if that is what I need.
In the past, w/ an '83 F350, when the core went you knew it. Steam on the windshield and then the cab was full of steam. This is just a drip under the core case.
It leaked yesterday. But not today. I ran the heater fan today w/ the heater on but no leak. And, the coolant level is still the same.
So, I'm thinking it is something else. I just don't know what, yet.
My 1998 Mustang GT had the same issue... water dripping down on the passenger floorboard. The dealership had to completely remove the dash to replace the "plenum". The mechanic said that he could have just placed some sealant on the plenum but he wanted to do the job correctly... great attitude!
Please excuse my ignorance but, from where, or why, is water coming through this plenum?
Is there a fresh air vent that water is coming in through and/or around.
Is it possible to "repair" this leak from the outside?
It seems as though removal and replacement of the dash is a LOT of work.
The Ford mechanic told me that my plenum was cracked. Again, he stated that he could have fixed it by applying some sealant on the outside of the plenum, which is what most mechanics would have done. I had purchased the Mustang from that dealership and the car only had 12K miles. It was a very service friendly dealership at the time so that's why they decided to "replace" the plenum as opposed to "fixing" the plenum.
I would take the truck to an automotive A/C repair shop for a proper diagnosis.
