no heat...

Well man, a couple things. I just had a lack of hot air myself, it would blow warm, but couldnt keep up at all and warm me up. First things first, make sure the flapper for the hot/cold is working. Middle of the dash at the bottom theres the cable, right there in the open, make sure its going all the way to its position. Also, the heater hose is hot going INTO the core, how about coming out, thats more important. Mine was hot going in, and not as hot coming out . I was gonna dish out for a new one, but decided to try flushing it out with the garden hose, and low and behold...it worked. i just went back and forth between the two fittings, and watched the rust, and other crap come out, cheapest fix ive done in a while! Good luck, winters cold...

I'm the same, hose going in is hot, coming out isn't. You just disconnect the return hose and flush it?

In line with the heater hose, they call it a heater control valve. It is operated by vaccum.

From what I've experienced, this valve is only on a/c equipped trucks - so yours shouldn't have one.

I'd take both heater hoses off and to flush.

this is a really simple thing to check. but i had this same problem when i first got my truck. make sure the cable that goes to the air box or whatever it's called is moving the lever all the way over so your not letting in outside air. all i could ever get was kind of warmish heat. then i was messing around one day and noticed that . wow what a difference!
opps just saw this was already mentioned. sorry.

Thumbs up

hi i just removed a heater box from a 78 f350 2wd and it only takes about a half an hour to do.first get a catch pan for the coolant ,then unhook the heater hoses and electrical from the blower motor and 3 nuts holding the heater box to the firewall.thats all you need to remove under the hood then open the pass side door unhook the two cables that work the heater doors, remve the screws that fastened the vent door on the heater box.after that a quick look to make sure everything is unhooked and it should pull out through the bottom.now the heater box can be taken to the bench for heater core removal, also a good time to replace the blower motor if its getting noisey. the heater core only sells for $35-$50 and dont forget to flush the complete cooling system and put fresh antifreeze and maybe a thermostat. i hope this helps

Unless you have a loose dashboard, you may have to loosen the bolt on the right hand side of the dash near the kick panel.
Most dashes have to be pulled toward the seat, to remove the heater box

make sure you have the hoses on the correct sides of the heater core, I put them on backwards one time, barely had any heat, switched then and it worked fine.
