Patina another term over used in the car hobby. It's rust and a faded paint job. It really doesn't make your truck look good in must cases, IMO. It kind of goes along with the rat rod craze, another reason not to put a little more effort to spray a coat of paint on the thing.
I don't particularly care for rat rods, but I also don't like yellow, brown, pink, purple, SBC's in anything besides Chevy's, fiberglass bodies, a hot rod with no carb, people who complain about somebody elses personal choice, and FOR CRYING OUT LOUD LEAVE THE DAMN ROOF ALONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As long as it is safe for me and my family to be beside, in front of, or behind, I don't give a damn.
Well, I have both, a 51 f1 built in my garage that I think looks pretty good that takes alot of time to keep nice and shinny, I'm also building a 52 f6 coe with a sleeper and a wrecker body, dually gm chassis and engine but it won't be on the road till it is road worthy, I just want something different.
I don't think that all rat rods are built from prestine rebuildable bodys but rather from parts left over from builds that would be nothing else but scrap if not put into something termed as a rat rod. Personally I'm all for them as long as what has already been said, SAFETY. Where I live your vehicle has to have a mechanic sign on a dotted line certifying that it is safe, any mechanics on here that would sign an unsafe vehicle. I think that there are far worse vehicles on our roads that have been neglected and poss a bigger safety hazard than the rides that so many like to criticize. If an unsafe vehicle is allowed to be put on the road, who's fault is it, the guy who built it or the one who says it's okay.
And as far as brand X motor having to be in brand X body is BS as well. I don't think anyone has the right to say to another that they're doing it all wrong because you wouldn't do it.
Oh ya did I mention I like rat rods, they tend to show more personality.
At least the rat rod owner, usualy builds their rats. That puts them ahead of somone that writes a check and has the car trailered home, and then tries to tell how he put the 283 ford in all by himself.

Much truth there, unfortunately it goes both ways; if the builder isn't talented.

This man has a very valid point. Hey is there any more popcorn?

I know what you mean, Bob. But as you noted, there are some exceptions. How could anyone paint over this...
I'm not exactly sure what qualifies a car or truck to be a ratrod....Is it satin black paint and red wheels with chrome bullets?...Patinaed paint?...Is a mid-fifties show truck with a chopped top, Mustang II front end, four wheel discs, Cadillac interior and fuel injected chevy 350 any less hacked up because it has a $15,000 paint job?...Styles come and go---and frankly, I like the old school look of these backyard hotrods...Plus, I like the chicks with the bleached blonde hair, red lipstick and tattoos that always seem to want to go along for the ride...
