2001 XLT with the auto locks. Lately when I start the vehicle the auto door locks engage as soon as I take my foot off the brake, even if still in park. I then disabled the auto lock feature per the manual and the info when I searched this site, and it still did it.
Any tips or hints? As I said I did do a search, but didn't see this type of issue.
Take note of the "Relock" section. Is it possible that one of your door switches is acting up, making the autolock system think a door has been opened and closed?
Autolock (if equipped)
This feature automatically locks all doors when:
- all vehicle doors, liftgate and liftgate window are closed
- the ignition is in the ON position
- you shift into or through R (Reverse)
- the brake pedal is released
Relock
The autolock feature repeats when:
- any door is opened and closed
- the ignition switch is in the ON position, and
- the brake pedal is released
Deactivating/activating the autolock feature:
Before following the procedure, make sure that the ignition is OFF and all vehicle doors and the liftgate window are closed. You must complete steps 1-7 within 30 seconds or the procedure will have to be repeated. If the procedure needs to be repeated, you must wait 30 seconds.
1. Turn the ignition key to ON.
2. Press the power door unlock control three times.
3. Turn the ignition key from ON to OFF.
4. Press the power door unlock control three times.
5. Turn the ignition back to ON. The horn will chirp.
6. Press the unlock control, then press the lock control. The horn will chirp once if autolock was deactivated or twice (one short and one long chirp) if autolock was activated.
7. Turn the ignition to OFF. The horn will chirp once to confirm the procedure is complete.
Ok - auto locks are off, but still having the problem. Can you see the sensor, in case that's it. I have heard on other Fords that you can spray some WD40 into the latch area - does that sound right? That maybe it's the sensor itself that is dirty or covered up?
negative...but I am not sure what the previous owner had added in the truck. I know there were fog lights and what would appear to be radio equipment..like 2-way radio stuff
That's a no for me, at least nothing I can see, not the first owner. I will have to look on the Lincoln site, that's where I saw somewhat like issues talking about ford door sensors that make all this stuff work. My issue with the lincoln was when I would look the doors with the remote that would unlock right away. Using the WD40 fixed the issue, but I never knew why.
i had the same problem in my 01 xlt, so i pulled the fuse and ended the problem, i lost my over drive, but due to big lift and mud tires i never drive fast enough to need over drive
