I think he's found his problem with the fried trailer connector.
Yeah, the trailer connector was the kind that has "idiot" lights on it so you can see if your lights are working even if you don't have a trailer connected...it got cracked and allowed all this moisture in it, shorted out, melted, and screwed up everything else...now, i just have to fix it...lol...i was gonna wait until morning, cause i just got home from putting 3600 miles on my rig...and dangit, i'm just tired...but, i'm convinced, i'm walking my big ol butt outside in my flannels and climbing under my hood to look at these maxi fuses...i just can't control myself...my wife says i'm nuckin futs...wheeeee....
OH, gotta edit my sig...more miles, and still gittin it...yay!!!!!!!!!
Who says...don't be acting like i ain't prepared...i might be FROM North Carolina, but I'm not one of the dumb uns.....

Yep, the #8, 15a was good and blow'd...changed it out, and all seems well again...oh, and i had to cut the trailer harness off the truck, so no towing until i get another one...
Ok, glad to hear it, but don't trust it long until you get those trailer wires straightened out. A little water or freeze could pop it again.
good tip, i removed all the wires and left the wire nuts on the ends...all should be ok, i'm going to get another harness in the morning, and i'm not going anywhere until i get it fixed...i get to drive "Peppy the Parts Hauler" down to Advance Auto at 8....looking forward to flying down this mountain in the VR6 giddyup...lol
Not to really hijack this thread, but if the dash lights are connected to the other lights, does it mean anything when the dash lights are dimming? My dash lights have gotten significantly dimmer over the past couple of months...

mine were too prior to the fuse blowing...do you also notice that the dimmer switch doesn't really dim or brighten the dash lights...???...
not that these two incidents are related, its just something i noticed on my truck...and after i put the new fuse in, it still does the same thing...they seem dim and don't really change with the switch operation...it might be a switch realted issue we're having...not sure...
the dimmer works, but it doesnt really seem like the dash lights get as bright as they used to or should.. it also seems like it may be effecting my headlights too. seems like they are there but just not bright at all. replaced them with silverstars but didnt really help too much...any ideas would be great...is there any way to replace to dash lights? maybe burning out bulbs or something? any way of replacing them with LEDs?
Yep, you are so right there, My pop is the only man I know that swears everyone elses truck is wired wrong but his and that's because he did it himself. Blown plenty of fuses on my truck trying to pull his little trailers. Finally rewired the trailer and his truck and now no more problems. You know, brakes worked with left turn, left turn with headlights and so on, until you did more that one at a time the POP goes the fuses.
Got a neighbour with a car trailer I used to borrow before i bought my own.
The lights never worked and I knew the plugs were right on both my trucks , his trailer was the only trailer i ever pulled that things didnt work right.
I used to tell him he had his trailer wired wrong and he used to get mad and say it worked fine on his truck, well it worked on his truck because he had the truck and the trailer wired wrong.
He used to say "Its done according to code" , I quit arguing with him he realy belived he was right.

You have a bad alternator, and failing batteries. Been there, done that, tried to convince myself that it wasnt happening, but it was. Replace alternator, with a NEW unit, not a remanufactured. Remove batteries, charge them, and then have them load tested. No, you cant do this with them tied together while installed in the truck.

We've had problems when hooking to different trailers or others hooking to ours that the brakes would lock on. I said too that their's were wired wrong. Searched on line for wiring diagrams for trailer wiring and found that there are 2 different diagrams for the brake lead using a different prong on the plug. I had to use an adapter from the big round to the small round plug so I wired in a DPDT switch in the adapter. Now I can hook to any trailer just by switching the brake lead. You'd think by now that there would be only one diagram for trailer wiring but I guess that some still want their own way.
I had the switch go bad in my 'stang -- it caused all kind of weird stuff. Dash lights, parking lights, etc, etc... Just add to this thread if someone finds it later.

Not to disagree with your advice, but is there any other reasons? I hate to think I gotta put in a new alt....just not something I want to deal with right now or spend money on...
