You don't need the turbo or injectors if you don't want more power. Get you a good custom chip with tow tunes like I have, , and you should be good to go.
I agree, it sounds like this is what you are looking for. Sticks and a turbo will take you way past what you say you want to do, it'll be overkill. Plus you'll need tuning anyway, won't hurt to give it a try and if you still want more, then add those other things. If you go with something other than a canned tune, you will probably end up exceeding your expectations.
If you are running a 1.0 A/R exhaust housing and no kind of tunes, that can cause a little lag. That 1.0 housing is begging for a good tune!
Like I said in the last post, I've had tunes..don't want to say who b/c I don't want this to turn into "that" thread but they weren't canned and I just didn't feel comfortable running them. That may sound weird but they just didn't sit right with me.
The performance increase was nice but I was still looking for some more out of the truck. That's why I thought going the injector/turbo route would be better for my situtation.

Sorry to bust your bubble, but if you get SS injectors stage I or II, you will have to have custom tunes to run them right. Like said already, try another custom tune.
Yeah I'm tracking that. Singles need custom tunes to work. What I'm saying is that if I'm going to have tunes...why not just get them once and couple them with injectors...
I'm not looking to make big HP numbers. I just want the truck to have enough power that it doesn't feel like it's struggling with itself.
The reason you are getting the input you are is because of this statement. I can't speak for your past tunes, sorry they didn't work out. But if you're engine is 100% now with no boost leaks or fuel problems, etc then we're all saying custom tunes should get you there. I have a mainly stock truck, and can pull 15K pounds in the mountains in a tow tune and have yet to feel underpowered, and rarely downshift, even on the steepest grades. If I do downshift it's because I lost speed due to someone else driving too slow in the inside lane and making me lose momentum. I think you'll find we all will say the same thing. Unless your idea of enough power is different than my idea of enough power. But don't let us talk you out of injectors, if you want them go for it and get it all done at once! I vote for some single shots, stage I or II, and a 38R.
One of those guys, I think it's Tony Wildman does free reburns, so you could give him a try.
Yup, I think you're right. The previous tunes must just not have been for me. I may have a good deal with stage 2 lined up. If that works out, stage 2s, different chip should yield me more than enough.
sounds like the 38r is the most popular....really want good low end power. That's what my overall goal is. Low end power, cruise 70 on the highway and be reliable...
My suggestion still stands. Get the stage 1s and go with your larger housing for now. Move that EGT probe to the up-pipe/manifold before you do so you'll know where you are EGT-wise with your current setup. If the stage 1s are too much for your comfort zone, then you can upgrade the turbo. The 1.0 housing is much better than the .84 stocker, so it's worth it to see if the stage 1/1.0 turbo will work out for you, IMHO. You can always upgrade the turbo later!
EDIT: I was typing while you replied. If you're going stage 2s, then you need a turbo...
EDIT2: The 38r is popular because it's drop-in. The H2E requires a lot more changes.
FWIW, my truck pulls a 33' 8600# dry weight 5'ver up Highway 24 and up US 285 to South Park a few times using the 60t high altitude DP tune and I cannot remember seeing my EGT's wander north of the 1250 degree limit. Even before the tuner, I didn't have high temps for me to worry about. I am running a stock turbo and sticks. Like Keith said, I haven't felt like I didn't have enough pedal to do the job unless I get stuck behind a slow semi or flatlander on a sight seeing tour. Not to keep you from spending more money but I would move the pyro probe to the up-pipe first just so you can compare apples to apples with temps the rest of us are seeing. It would help to see where the next mods need to happen. You may still result in getting bigger sticks and an turbo but if you are seeing high temps, you may have a boost leak or something else to look into first. You seem to have a good mod set-up to combat high EGT's. JMHO.
Agreed. The one pyro gauge is in the downpipe and as soon as I can get some time away from work I'll install the isspro one in the manifold.
I haven't been seeing high temps with this Ex, it was with my old truck. I'm just exploring options. If I'm going to spend $500 on tunes, I'd rather put injectors and a turbo and have more than enough rather than be struggling.
As soon as I get that pyro in I'll post numbers but I don't expect to see anything high on this Ex.
Ive been running 175/146s with a stock turbo, with an ATS compressor housing. Does like normal, untill your WOT, then its just not enough. Our early 99 has 160cc injectors (stage 1s) and I just installed a QSSB (just a tad larger then a stock H2E IIRC) And that is a great match. Only time the pyro hits 1200 empty is in a hot tune, WOT, high rpms, and just before it shifts. Havent towed with it yet, but I expect great things. I am hoping to order a 38r as soon as my tax refund gets here. People have good success with it upto 500 hp. and with my injectors I should be in the 350hp range. If your putting larger injectors, you really better consider tranny mods. 2 important ones, the torque converter and associated pump mods, and a valve body.
thanks, that post is exactly what I'm looking for. I've spoke with John Wood and I'll be ordering a VB soon. The tranny is planned from JW when this one finally lets go.

Your transmission can live a long time with a torque converter, and valve body. The torque converter is one of the largest causes of failure in the diesel 4r100 IMO. Then while your tranny fluid is drained, a 6.0 cooler is good to put in at this time
If you go with stage II injectors, talk to Ryan Casserly. I had a set of stage I's, and they ran like crap. It took me a year to finally send them to Casserly (they were "new" remans, so I figured they were in good shape). I got them backwith some rework and "his" nozzles making them stage II's, and it's day and night difference. It runs stronger, very little-to-no smoke and never quits pulling. It's hard to compare to how I had it before because in that "fixing" period I put on a 38R. I think it's a great setup and highly recommend it. I think you'll really like the stage 2's and 38R, it's a nice combo and easy to install.
I've been talking with Tony to do some reburns and needing to do some more live tuning. I don't know who you had before, but I'd recommend Tony. I know joe (izzy) and Rich (white buffalo) have his tunes as well, and we all have similar setups and all extremely happy with them.
