When the one on my dad's 97 PSD failed, it was the bearings. They wore down, finally overheated and blew the caps off the outside of the bearings. It must have been going for a long time because the new one provided so much more vacuum that he would nearly lock the brakes every time he stopped.
Maybe you're getting some type of contamination in the lines thats damaging the pump? Does it use brake fluid? Pull the line off the booster and check for fluid.
