I have a 95 F250 psd that started out as a gas truck. I thought the vacuum pump was bad. I had a real good pedal and stop the first time I would hit it then it was like there was no vacuum (hard pedal ) but if I would give it a few seconds I would have a good pedal again. I changed the pump today and still had the same problem so I changed the booster from the parts truck and now the pedal is hard all the time. I drove both trucks before and both had good brakes. The pump is pulling good vacuum now. Any ideas ?
Sorry to hijack! What is the cause if the vent controls take a minute to switch from blowing out the defrost to the vents? Also I have a soft brake pedal.

I had not thought about the hvac controls but they are stuck on defrost. I dont seem to have much vacuum to tho line for the controls. I decided to try running the line from the pump to the booster and took it for a ride. The pedal is usually hard at first then starts to soften up and work ok until I let up on it. Sometimes I get a good pedal as soon as I hit it. I am almost positive the check valve is the one off the psd truck

Should post this in your own thread, but typically that's an indicator of a vacuum leak somewhere. Also, there's supposed to be a 'zero leak' vacuum booster that fixes the somewhat soft pedal that these trucks came with from the factory.
