Had to repalce the starter last night, it was cranking real slow, batteries were good, unhooked batt's, put new starter on, while i was under the truck finishing install, my brother was up top and was starting to hook batteries up, i did not have the starter all the way in yet when he hooked up the first batt, the starter engaged and arced on the bell housing. not good right. so we tried one more time and the same thing as soon as the cables on the battery were hooked up the starter would engage or arc on the bell housing, went down and got a new stater and hooked it up with no problems...
or so i thought...
New starter in, went to start the truck, would just crank, tried again , would just crank, tried a third time and the truck started .....
shut it off and tried a hundred more times, no start...
Put it on the scanner- IDM fault...
Should i replace the IDM now, how did the starter fry the idm?????
Are there fuel bowl heaters on these superdutys, i know on my OBS truck it would not start one day and it was the fuel bowl heater shorted out...
Check your fuses and relays and clear the code. My guess is your IDM fault tripped from too much cranking. Does your WTS light work normal? Can you hear the fuel pump come on with the key? Any smoke out the tailpipe while cranking?
Have you tried to clear the code and see if any come back after cranking it over a couple of times? Can you do a buzz test. This would check the idm circuitry. Also, make sure your oil is full and the hpop resevoir is full. Are you getting power to the GPR?
Yes gpr was working, oil was full, put idm back in to reset codes, reset codes still no start, put the battery charger on cause batt's were dy'en, still no start.... Put 2 new battery's in, cause we had them in the shop, and bammm, truck started right up with old idm....??????????
So i then put my new DP Tuner in and a bad day turned into a reaLLY good day fast.. WOW that DP makes that thing run like a champ.... sweet, thanks clay...
