A good 4'' suspension lift will allow you to rnu 33's, but 32's would fit better and look just as good. I like your ideas for the truck. For some reason I like seeing lifted 2wd trucks. I guess because it's different. My 2wd has a 3'' lift and 31'' tires. I have the same motor and tranny as you do, too. What gear ratio is in your truck? 3.08? If you plan on going to 33'' tires you'll want a 3.73 ger set to give you the power back and fuel mileage.
What type of exhaust work does it have? Do you like the sound?
To be honest i cant tell what exhaust it has, it sounds good but not loud enough for my taste. I was thinking of getting headers while i am at it but haven't decided what muffler to replace the current one. Yes I believe my truck has 3.08's, how much would it cost to regear?
I'm not going to suggest anything for legal purposes or get into a debate about what muffler sounds best.. I will say, a 300 with open headers sounds something akin to a big block. Just my opinion. I persnally run a Flowmaster and I like it. I've heard better sounding 300's but mine sounds like a V8 down low once it's hot so I'm happy enough with it. You couldn't tell by my sound clips though. Stupid camera just can't pick up the deep tones.
Gears are expensive but the real expense is paying somebody to instal them. It's not just a wrenching project; you need special tools to do it and it has to be done CORRECTLY. If you fail to instal the gears correctly you will grenade your third member.
3.73's are pefect for 32 or 33 inch tires with the 300.
I'm looking forward to seeing what you do to your truck.
Well I have the tools to change the gears in autotech and I know how too so I think ill do it in school. Yeah im ive been listening to the sound clips on the i6 section of this forum, i think im goin flowmaster.
Well nevermind, I guess it's the right number. The truck still sits lower than it should in the back - all FlareSides do. I would like to instal a pair of add-a-leaves. You reckon Ford lowered the rear for a more sporty look?
what is weird though is that they both have the same GAWR for the rear axle. But what's really weird, is that the tow package truck has a higher GAWR for the front axle. Anyone know why this would be?
My truck has tow package and only has 4 leafs like the 2nd picture. I would like to have that overload spring though.

Be carful makeing the 300 loud. If you go too loud you probabyl won't like the sound. You could try a long glasspack.

Hey Bill, I wonder if the flaresides have different shackles. Maybe thats why it sits lower in the rear than a regular F150. I have noticed that generally that is what I have seen too.
Yeah, you've noticed that too? It's an annoynce to me, I can't put 400 lbs in the bed without making the nose tip up. It just gives the truck a wimply look when you're hauling nothing and it looks like it's squating.

This is true. I've heard some really awesome sounding 300's, but on the same token I've heard 300's that sounded like anemic 6 bangers and even 4 poppers. Mine sounded downright RICEY when I had both factory cats and a flowmaster super 40 dumped under the truck.
A short to medium pack would be good. I've had a long pack before and it was just too quiet.
TexasGuy001,you may want to do a search on headers on the 300.They have some pretty nasty problems with them, blocking access to your starter and never getting them to seal, are 2 that come to mind.

So the number of leaves seems to have nothing to do with tow package... Man, the one with more leaves always sat up so much heigher in the back... My next thought would be short vs long bed, but you just disproved that one bill. Maybe it's just random.

Yeah, I plan on moving all of that over to the blue truck. It was few and far between when I had the truck that loaded, but when I did I was glad to have it.
Springs can get complicated. They can be so different, narrower, wider, thicker, and have different spring rates. Some of the after market ones out there will replace 2 stock leaves with one of theres,my friends '96 F150 4x4 long bed has 4 leafs on one side and 5 on the other, one of the 4 is an after market, was on the truck when he bought it this fall.It rides level and causes no ill affects at all.Best thing I can say is to keep things equal, don't mix up spring packs from one truck to another, unless you put the same leaf on both sides and in the same position. That spring set up on my friends truck would drive me nuts, but I can't stand crooked pictures either.lol.
