It's not that hard. Get a floor jack and a piece of plywood about as wide an long as the tank. Unbolt the straps and lower the tank enough to unhook the quick connect fittings, and it's out. You'll need the tool to unhook those fittings. Don't get plastic either, they'll break. Been there, done that.

Have you hooked up a fuel pressure gauge to monitor the fuel pressure to see if you have blockage? Your hesitation/stalling issues might be something else not even related to fuel.

Thanks Pocket, very diesel newbie here, trial by error as I go, which tool are you referring to and I dont have a fuel pressure gauge but have never hooked one up. I know that there is a filter in the tank that gets clogged at times and was going to check that. Feel Free to caution me and direct me in the right direction.

Have you tried to blow some compressed air threw the filler neck wrapped with a rag ?

It may clear the any debris causing your hesitation, and save you some work. worth a try.

If you do have to drop the tank, take a look at this - http://www.guzzle7pt3.com/hutch.php it wil show you how.

That would be low pressure air and take the cap off the tank first. But Mark is dead on. No need to drop the tank unless you want to and want to do the tank mods he mentioned.

Edit: Just reread Marks post, he's blowing air in through the filler. I would try blowing air into the tank through the fuel line before the pump.

If you do have to drop the tank, take a look at this - Welcome to guzzle's In-tank Hutch Mod Web Page it wil show you how.
Shouldn't he blow low pressure air into the fuel supply line, back to the tank with the filler cap removed. Blowing air into the filler cap will only force the debris into the screen.

I guess the question is, are you looking for advice on how to drop the tank, or would you like some other input on things to check before you do it?

Dropping the tank isn't bad. It's easier with 2 people, but can be done with just one. The closer to empty the tank is, the easier it will be. The tank weighs almost nothing when empty.

I would look at some possible other solutions to your problem before dropping the tank. Like the ICP for example. Got some Pro's on FTE that could save you and offer advise on what to check .
I'm not saying your issue is related to the clogged screens in your tank, but if your dropping the tank i would do the tank mod for sure, per guzzle...
Just cleaning the screens? I guess that would work for a quick cheap fix.
If you insist on using the original setup i would go get a couple new replacement screens.
It is a pretty fine mesh and probably a pain to just clean.

How about just taking the screens out and tossing in the trash. Use the housing without the screens?

Here is a pic of mine. Not to bad. When i did my dads, his was just about clogged solid and his motor ran ok.
Screens in the tank

Fuel connection x 2 and tool needed.

Thanks everyone, my son is trying to help me get this taken care of as we are moving back to the beach....YEAH....but cant leave town without the Yellow Beast purring. Thanks for the pics danskool, that helps a lot. I've never had problems until past 8 months and it seems one thing after another. Chris I will take any suggestions to what could be the possible problem/remedy for getting back on the road. Short on time frame and money has to last until I get back to Florida this week.
