well noticed today soot around back of firewall. Can only assume it the up pipes or donuts leaking. Anyone have the part numbers from IH for the donuts and up pipes. Hopefully just the donuts are bad. How hard are they to replace? Do I need to remove the turbo to do it?
I wouldn't think they are different than a 97, but this is what FMC workshop manual says
Turbocharger exhaust inlet pipes 6K854... Looks like the differentiation is marked by LH a nd RH.
Thats the Ford part number anyway
Shouldn't be any doughnuts in there.. at least my 97 didn't have any. Might have a bolt that stretched from heating and cooling or the pipe warped a little bit.
thanks. Found a kit for just a bit over 200 and it includes the pipes, donuts, and hardware. Probably be going this route, until I can get a better look at it to see if the pipes are ok and it's is just the donuts. Your Premiere Source for Ford Truck Parts and Accessories Been having some fuel mileage issues and I think this might be the cause of it. Been driving with chip on Economy setting or tow setting and staying out of it and have been lucky to get 12mpg the past 3 tanks. I was getting no worse than 16
Yes the donuts are on the upipes and the collector. There are none where the uppipes connect to the exhaust manifold. I would just get the donuts. They are like $12.00 from the stealership. I have recently heard to soak them in antiseize also and you will never have anymore problems.
I wouldn't buy that whole kit unless yours are trashed and I seriously doubt they are trashed.
It is a tight job to do with the Turbo and Transmission in. If you can remove either it will make life simple. It can be done though with both in though. Take your time and soak the bolts in PB blaster or similiar to loosen them up.
If you can figure out what size the donuts are, odds are you can get them at your local parts store for just a couple of dollars each. On the Superduty's, we use a Felpro 8194. It's a smallblock gas donut, but is the right diameter and a little thicker than the stock one. I don't know if that works on the OBS trucks. Anyone know if there's a difference in the diameter in our up pipes?
Coating everything in anti-seize is a great idea. I don't think it's foolproof, but it helps. Unless you've somehow damaged your pipes, don't waste the money on the $200 kit. Ford sells the bolts for a couple of dollars each if you happen to mess one up.
Just don't force the bolt. Plenty of PB blaster and take your time. If it doesn't want to go, spray it again and come back to it later.
I agree on the PB. I have replaced mine and reused the bolts. 13 years and they still work. I had a loose manifold connection the other day and thought I will need new bolts this time for sure. Wrong, I just tightened it right up no problem. If you don't break them when removing them then you are good. If they do break no prob just get some new ones.
I believe the donuts are the same for SD or OBS. We can use small block chevy donuts.
