While i was at DP Tuner, Jody noticed a puff of smoke coming from one of my up pipes. What are my options and pricing on replacing just the donuts, new pipes and donuts or new bellowed pipes without donuts? what say you all?
Get the bellowed pipes.
No stupid compressed o-ring to deteriorate and leak again in six months.
Get the bellowed pipes.
It will be a permanant repair.
Get the bellowed pipes.
You will not have to do this job again.
Get the bellowed pipes.
They will remain perfectly sealed no matter what the situation.
Get the bellowed pipes.
There are designed to absorb the expansion and contraction of the up pipes and there will be no sliding of the sealing surface under the gasket.
Get the bellowed pipes.
Let me say again.
Get the bellowed pipes.
Do I make myself clear?
Get the bellowed pipes.
I agree, go with the belowed ones. I bought mine from the IH dealer for a little less than the ceramic coated ones. If I can find the invoice, I'll let you know what I paid.
What is the purpose of cermaic coating the up-pipes? Is it the whole faster spool up, cooler EGT's thing? If so i want to see eugene's opinion on this.
You are right on target about the faster spool and the lower EGT's, John. The coating is a smoother surface than bare steel and that makes for less resistance and less work.
We do ceramic coating here at work. Wondering if maybe I could get a bellowed kit and coat them myself.

They do the inside and out? I thoguht it was just the outside. This is getting held off for awhile, mine are not leaking yet, they are going to soon, since the motor the up-pipes were off of was a 02 with 230K on it so they are about due.
I for one completely disagree with Dan. There is no way of knowing if it is a permanent repair. There is no way of knowing for a fact that it will never have to be done again. I mean the bellows "could" crack after 700,000 miles . Just installed my belows pipes from International while my motor is out, again. . Cost me about 360ish, and can tell you they are well worth it. Just wish I would have had the time to get them coated.
Oh yeah, and on edit, Let me say that that engine stand you see is one with a crank handle on it for rotating the engine any way you need it that I just got for this project and it ROCKS!! That is the only way to fly
I believe the dents in the pipe are there for the rather large bellhousing that IH uses on the transmissions behind the 444... The pipe inside has a very thin 2000* slippery coating, the outside is coated with a 1600* coating and i believe buffed to a polish finish. They are STILL that shiney.
